2016 WCHA Offseason; It's All Over, Save Ferris

Re: 2016 WCHA Offseason; It's All Over, Save Ferris

Well if he was telling the truth it's one thing, but obviously he isn't. Witness. ASU plays the exact style he wants to leave and they have no problem getting high skill recruits to sign up. So obviously this is just a red herring to stick it to WCHA types.
So Good luck Duluth you got a good liar.

Pretty bold. Hide behind a screen name and publicly call someone a "liar." As for ASU's style of play, they're still primarily a team with club level talent. Now when they get guys like Pasichnuk to his 3rd varsity season, you'll see a more wide open style.

Krieger is a jerk, like 2/3 of the other NCHC players, for leaving UA_, but I have nothing bad to say about the kid. Unfortunately he didn't really think things through. If he's only an average player in the WCHA, he isn't going to get a sniff of ice time in the far superior and more highly skilled NCHC.

The thing that was weird to me was that he said that he was fine with the coaches but then seemed to feel stifled by playing at wing instead of center. Sooooo ... which is it? Also, was he a high-enough caliber player that jumping ship will improve his pro prospects?

Point is he wanted to leave. He also didn't want to say publicly that he didn't like it where he was, or that he didn't like playing wing or he didn't like his playing time, so he said he didn't like the style of play. BS. He just made something up, in other words, lied, so he didn't have to say what he really left for. There's almost as many NCHC teams that play the alaska style as there are WCHA teams so it's obviously not a league thing. Though it is de regeur to say that. Defensive hockey is taking over as the primary style throughout NCAA hockey.

Why are you guys so upset about a player saying what 80% (yes thats a made up number and no i cant and wont cite it) of the people watching wcha games are saying the same thing? Stick your head in the sand all you want, but watching bad hockey will kill the league much, much faster than having a league of small schools. Last year was not fun hockey to watch. It was slow, slogging hockey that is at best, boring to watch and at worst illegal hockey that will hurt teams in non-conference.

Yeah, it's kind of funny that a bunch of fans of teams the kid didn't even abandon are bitter he didn't announce he was leaving to play with better players, on a better team, in a better league, with an actual chance of winning a title, and instead told a little white lie.

The unfortunate thing is seeing Ferris win the playoff and then win a game in the NCAA tournament. Somehow, the team who plays the least attractive hockey ends up as your most successful, and the stigma on the league grows even bigger. And even worse, it starts to encourage other teams that the way to be successful is to chip off the glass, dump and chase, clutch and grab, and hope your goalie can help you steal a game.

yet, quite a few nachos threw good words about Ferris after their tournament play. didn't hear any complaining about their style being unattractive. maybe I missed the complaints... or maybe the good words were just nacho patronizing.

Krieger described the style of play in the WCHA as hard-working, but not as skilled, with the exception of Michigan Tech, Minnesota State and Bowling Green.

My emphasis. Not buying into league "stigmas", or propaganda spewed from other conferences. my team will be exceptional regardless of skill levels and styles of other teams. if every team takes care of their own, the conference will be fine.

But the problem is, as skilled players go elsewhere because of the overall style of play (and officiating) in the league, they will eventually stop coming to ANY teams in the league, even those trying to play an up-tempo game. Once a league starts declining, everything snowballs, for the teams at the top as well as the teams at the bottom.

Everyone in every conference plays some neutral zone trap-type style, at least some of the time (Well, except Michigan, but that's because their Team USA minor league affiliate keeps sending them players from across town), but not everyone plays clutch-and-grab hockey. The WCHA has to improve the officiating first. After that, chip and chase as a strategy will fail on its own.

There is a huge difference between playing defensive and being allowed to clutch, grab, & hook as you please.

Exactly!!!

I don't think anyone is bitter. But they are commenting, sure. However I don't differentiate between a big lie and a little white one. But meh, whatever. Players leave all the time of course, but you know he had 2 years as a junior to change his mind. He had 2 more years in school after that, and now he finds out that he doesn't like the style.? Can't he just tell the truth.
I want to point out that LSSU seems to have moved away from the clutch and grab stuff.

Squarebanks feel free to correct me, but UA_'s style of play has changed in the last 4 years, even in the last two.

The NCHC commish just went all Lee Corso on ASU. That's amusing.

I don't follow the reference... but that statement on Twitter is an interesting one.

He's fond of saying, "Not so fast, my friend!" on college football broadcasts. But I haven't cared about those in 10 years, so he may be dead for all I know.

For all I know, Fenton is merely noting that they've not started the application process with ASU.
