2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

I finished it too. I love swimming. Took lessons every summer up to the level where after you pass, you're automatically certified to be a lifeguard. My abs were insane. Obviously, that lapses after a year or so. Both the certification and the abs. :D

I still have great abs from playing five seasons of soccer goalie a year. They're just covered with a layer of insulation.

What are the pieces of deformed, melted looking statues they're giving the medal winners in addition to their medals? I don't recall ever having seen extra trinkets being handed out aside from medals before now.

So today a swimmer was reinstated following a false start DQ because of an issue with a judge/timer or something, and now a beach volleyball game just redid the ending due to a muffed challenge ruling.

Beach volleyball is known by its second name, "competitive soft core porn," right?

Saw that with the .177 cal gold winner, and I was confused myself.

Both volleyball formats have their merits.

Indoor/hardcourt is faster. It has more "aces" (if that is a VB term - I casually follow tennis and am not sure). The ladies still wear tight attire. :)

Beach VB is harder to get steady footing. Fewer players mean a bit less defense is played. And the ladies are on semi-full display. :D

Do the Aussies have targets on their backs??

@danielsutton10: BREAKING: Two #AUS* rowing coaches robbed by kids with large knife near team accom at Ipanema. Not hurt. Wallet phones and team blazer gone.

The Brazilians are now booing and chanting Zika at the volleyball team.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

The entire Russian paralympic team banned for doping

What a choke job by Korean men's soccer. Up 3-2 in stoppage time against the Germans, blow a three on one, then Germany comes back down and scores off a free kick.

I haven't had to resort to streaming from Europe since almost all of the sports are being streamed live on the NBC app - sans announcers. I see closed captions on the screen sometimes so I know they're there but the feed isn't picking them up.

Stuck with whatever is on NBC, I've been hitting up a local watering hole for lunch the last couple of days. While it was a thrashing, and entertaining in a different way compared to a close match, watching the Rugby 7's was quite fun (AUS 53, COL 0) yesterday. Might be looking at when other games are on, and checking them out.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

How about the idiocy of chanting about a disease that is causing birth defects in your population.... idiots.

Not only that, but if the entire US team (and some others) decided NOT to go, these Olympics would be an even bigger cluster**** than it already is.

They used to always hand out flowers along with the medals. Maybe someone thought the flowers die and can't be a keepsake (as if the medals aren't already enough of a keepsake), so they came up with some sort of ... whatever the heck that is.

I always thought they were laurel wreaths, as an homage to the ancient games.

That's exactly what I thought. It's one thing to hammer on Hope Solo (and even then, I thought what you thought), but to use it as a general chant against USA teams when that virus killed how many of your babies and left how many of your babies permanently deformed and nearly caused the Games to be cancelled outright ... maybe the Zika virus does infect adult brains after all...

Blazing Saddles, Howard Johnson:"As honorary chairman of the welcoming committee, it my privilege to present this laurel and hearty handshake ......"
