2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

I was kidding about Pierre. :p
Actually the feed I was watching had no announcers at all. It was very odd but not unpleasant.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

I'd give the nod to either the road race or the triathlon. Water polo is up there, but it's not the top.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Not by a long shot. 32 minutes, with quarter breaks, time-outs, goal stoppages, and substitutions vs a 6-hour bike race with none of those things?

Water polo is a series of sprints, not a pure endurance sport. Amazing athletes, of course - just don't think you have them in the right category.
Treading water ain't easy when someone is trying to drown you.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Watching field hockey, they look to be pretty GD fit as well.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Not that I know anything about it, but Water Polo is probably the most endurance-testing sport at the Olympics.

ETA: And it was reported that the first gold medal of the games went to a 19 year old American in Air Rifle. Apparently it was a huge upset. Good for her.

Triathalon. As far as athleticism? The wrestling. Aerobics, using ALL muscles of your body. No, it's not endurance, but as far as knowing every limit/specification of your body, wrestling is it.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

The rowers would like to have a word with you about the muscles bit.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Any gymnast that competes in all the disciplines (maybe they all do that?) is using everything they have at some point as it relates to athleticism. Or the decathlete, pentathlete...

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Oh man, that's completely true. I watch the men's gymnastics and think they are the last ones I would want to fight. Those guys are ripped.

I do forget about gymnastics.

For water polo? It's pretty much about leg strength. Same with cycling. Look at the sports where you use EVERYTHING for athleticism. Endurance? THEN you look at running, cycling, etc etc.

The US ladies needing a lucky bounce/"clean up the trash" goal, a few big saves by Solo, and a bit of luck to beat France.

We had to swim the 800 in gym class back in high school. I was the only one who finished. This was back when I was in great shape from soccer.

I finished it too. I love swimming. Took lessons every summer up to the level where after you pass, you're automatically certified to be a lifeguard. My abs were insane. Obviously, that lapses after a year or so. Both the certification and the abs. :D
