SF Giants Madison Bumgarner to be starting pitcher and DH tonight.

You are correct.I don't think you can do that. A DH does not appear in the field. It would appear that the SFG will forgo the DH tonight and play by NL rules in an AL ballpark.

Could they use the DH for a different position or must it be the pitcher?
You can DH for any of the 9 defensive positions...
The Designated Hitter rule:
A hitter may be designated to bat for the starting pitcher and all subsequent pitchers in any game without otherwise affecting the status of the pitcher(s) in the game. A Designated Hitter for the pitcher must be selected prior to the game and must be included in the lineup cards presented to the Umpire-in-Chief.
The Designated Hitter named in the starting lineup must come to bat at least one time, unless the opposing club changes pitchers. It is not mandatory that a club designate a hitter for the pitcher, but failure to do so prior to the game precludes the use of a Designated Hitter for that game.
I'm wondering, say Bumgarner is pulled in the 7th or 8th inning. Do the Giants forego the DH for the rest of the game?

Maybe in the lower levels, but not in MLB, from what I read here:

Hrm... It's in there... Dunno how I effed that up
Yep, pitcher only in MLB...
I can probably tell you how. I'm only guessing, but I suspect that in lower levels (high school and such), that you can indeed use a DH for any player. If that's the level of games you're working, then those rules are what you're used to. Sounds reasonable, at least.
Bumgarner goes 1-4, pitches into the 7th, snaps a personal 2 game losing streak and the Giants end a 3 game schneid.
No homer. TRAID.
It's July 1st, what is Bobby Bonilla going to do with this year's million?
