2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

Call me when a West team shows up in a game that matters...

I'm assuming that means when they beat an Eastern team...or win a national title?

Guess what...only 1 team wins that national title.

Plattsburgh just lost to Utica...enough said there.

Show me a Western team with a record even remotely similar to Plattsburgh's over say, the last five years, four, three, two, one???
...then you can talk...one loss in nearly two seasons...yeah, let's write them off.

Give me a western team that plays Utica, Chatham, Neumann, William Smith, Potsdam, Cortland, Oswego twice each year and I'll show you one with 1 loss in two seasons :) Plattsburgh has 3 losses over the past two seasons...

That Being Said...Adrian has 3 losses over the past two regular seasons--1 to Stevens Point, 1 to Lake Forest and 1 to Plattsburgh...all top 10 teams

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

I'd prefer we play ourselves into the tourney before we're a part of this conversation.

Check out Utica's record this year. They're no cupcakes....Check out Platty's record against...well, everybody good, or not so good. They haven't ducked anybody. Never have, never will.

Think Adrian has a chance to show something....everyone else from "out west" is just there because......

Perhaps. But we've got some serious work to do first. 2 with LFC, then two more with either St Norbert or St Scholastica, who have both driven us absolutely nuts this year, then potentially another with LFC. Oh, and there's only 2 Pool C's up for grabs this year in case something goes sideways along the way.

We're a long way from home yet.

Plattsburgh's schedule? They are 16-2 against ranked teams the last two seasons (not including Utica, who will probably be ranked today). 18 games against ranked opponents. They can't control the rest of their league (which is every team you mentioned in your post), but they take on all comers out of conference.

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

And with the loss on Saturday she's out in my opinion. I'm still going with Greenway.

She's out with one loss? Goaltenders have to go undefeated to win the Laura Hurd award? 21-1 with .69 GAA and .955 save percentage. If that doesn't merit consideration, then I smell an eastern, anti-goaltender, or anti-Plattsburgh bias!

The 2 pool C's will probably come down to Elmira, Adrian/LFC, and Amherst/Middlebury.

I would imagine if Adrian wins both next weekend they are in...regardless of what happens in the NCHA tourney...as long as they make it to the title game. Remember they have the head to head win over Elmira. The Adrian/Middlebury comparison is pretty interesting as well.

If they lose next weekend, they'd have to win the NCHA tourney.

Greenway's going to go one way or the other this weekend against you-know-who. Right now, as much as I like Lewicki, it's Greenway in the West.

Isn't RF Senior Kinsel leading stats in career points? Didn't she make the all tourney team at nationals as a sophomore?? When was the last time a West player did that?

Fair points. All duly noted. But I'd still go with Greenway from the West, at this point, this year. And all subject to change, of course.

Greenway: 33-13-46 this year, 103-48-151 in her career
Kinsel: 22-16-38, this year, 79-74-153 overall.

It probably comes down to who wins the NCHA player of the year. Kinsel will most likely get the WIAC player of the year. If Greenway gets NCHA player of the year, she's gonna have a lead over Kinsel. If Lewicki from Adrian gets NCHA player of the year...Kinsel probably has an outside chance. Comes down to this weekend again.. :)

Fixed your post.... Also, God forbid Utica wins the ECAC West tournament....

I don't think Middlebury gets a Pool C if they lose nescac tournament.

Not after losses to Castleton and Norwich.

I think the only 5 teams in Pool C contention are Plattsburgh, Elmira, Adrian, Lake Forest and Amherst.

Generally, no. But against the competition that Plattsburgh plays more than half of their games against I would say probably yes. Hey, I respect the Plattsburgh program and all of their accomplishments, but tossing a bunch of shutouts at ECAC-West teams other than Elmira and Utica (and occasionally Oswego) isn't really Laura Hurd fodder. GAA against Elmira, Utica, and the non-conference schedule is 1.18 (too tedious to calculate save percentage) which is still very good but slightly more pedestrian. And she has shown she can be beaten and the trend more recently (Elmira and Utica) is not nearly as good (2.00 GAA in those 4 games). She isn't Aveson and personally I'm not feeling the Laura Hurd in her future.
