2016-2017 Division 1 Polls

Re: 2016-2017 Division 1 Polls

I did some maths:

http://www.bcinterruption.com/2016/...omens-hockey-east-departing-returning-scorers

Apologies if the numbers are off based on 5th-year returnees or transfers. I did the best I could with the limited info I had.

Bemidji and North Dakota are going to have a rough go of it, it seems.

Probably more accurate to use goals instead of points. An unassisted goal counts the same as a goal with a primary and secondary assist.

I considered it, but went with points based because if you have a player getting a ton of assists and lose that player, you lose their playmaking ability along with it.

I didn't check but I'm pretty sure the numbers end up being in the same ballpark regardless, though.

I think BC is third in returning goal scoring in Hockey East, if you credit the last full season to the Harvard transfer.

Re: 2016-2017 Division 1 Polls

Agreed! Any goaltender that can shut out a Brandt-Kessel lead Gopher team is a bit better than just "good"!

Small sample size...

ARD's numbers against the Gophers for the time she has been the starter:

11 games
W/L record 3-7-1 or 3-8 depending on how you count the shootout loss.
.915 Save %
2.91 GAA
Facing roughly 30.1 shots per game.

Conclusion: The numbers against Minnesota? More good than great. ;)

You have to take into account she's gotten better from her Fr year to her Jr. year. 3-3 last year, played a series with a severe case of the flu and allowed 4 goals both games. You all can poo poo playing with the flu all you want, but it affects your performance. We all can admit to that. Taking that weekend out, she had a 1.5 gaa against the rodents last year.

there is no doubt she is a great goalie, for what it is worth, WI put 35 shots on goal, scored none, MN put 32 on goal, scored 4
if you are going by the box score, it does indeed sound like her having the flu affected the outcome
but if you actually watched the game, from the opening drop of the puck to the end there was no doubt which team had the upper hand, the Gophers were absolutely flying, the usual extremely stiff Badger forecheck was a non factor, the Gophers moved the puck out of their zone to the Badger zone pretty much at will
the following night it was the same way for two periods, a goalie cannot slow a team down, she can only keep the puck out of the net

I agree, the rodents had the upper hand that weekend and the subsequent games. Kessel was the difference, she made the 1st line better, the 2nd line better and the 3rd line better. The 1-0 game in the wcha final was also more rodent edged than badger as well, but ARD posted the shut out. The ncaa semi was the same story different day, though a little more even. It is evident that a healthy ARD gave UW 40 60 chance to win. I have to think if Miller was healthy she may have played 1 or both games in Minneapolis instead of ARD. I need some fresh season hockey to flush the bitter past from my body.

Anybody else out there going up to St.Cloud this weekend to watch the games? I'm thinking about making the trip!

I SO wanted to, but it just would not work out. I'm trying to get something together for the Mankato series. We have a bunch of friends attending Martin Luther College, so we're trying to hook up with them and have a nice pro WI turnout. The Friday game @ 2pm SUCKS. Not being able to see both games is a deterrent for sure.

"The Friday game @ 2pm SUCKS."

It will, for the Huskies no doubt! Except the game is at 6pm.

HAVE TO??? Heck no. Maybe deadspin getting better is directly related to the team around her getting better. I know there are WisconSIN folks of the opinion that Leveille is the beneficiary of the strong team defense around her.

I mean, You could take Sunday, Mar 20 from BC's season last year and presto, they're undefeated. Selective statistics...See how that works? :)

yes, and I prefer to look at what a team has, rather than what they had, so here is the returning goals and points, subtracting Rogers from MN and adding them to BU, adding Schammel's MSU-M points to MN, and adding Parker's last full season points to BU:

1)MN returns 141 goalS and 391 points
2)WI returns 124 goals and 318 points
BU returns 110 goals and 264 points
BC returns 97 goals and 304 points
NE returns 108 goals and 308 points

Colgate returns 105 goals and 258 points
Clarkson returns 103 goals and 259 points
Princeton returns 92 goals and 231 points
but I am not familar with transfers or red shirts
looks like a long year for Harvard :)

I may as well add in:
9)Quinnipiac which returns 76 goals and 178 points
10)UMD returns 71 goals and 189 points
there is my preseason top ten, 3 thru 8 is a tossup
