2015 WCHA Offseason

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

Tech's website says pricing will be announced in September.

"Information on WCHA.tv subscription packages and pricing for the 2015-16 season (including full season, monthly, single day, team-specific and more) will be available in September. - See more at: http://www.wcha.com/men/pres1415/201508/aug5wcm.php#sthash.ox4OKsPC.dpuf"

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

If the delay in releasing a price schedule is for the sake of market research, now would be a good time to email the WCHA and let them know what you think.

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

Stretch is what the NSIC (Bemidji and Mankato's D-II conference) uses for their webcasts. The NSIC offers all their games for free, so once the fall seasons rolls around, you could view a game or two and see what the product is like.

From what I have watched of NSIC games, it is a good service. It should be an improvement over last year.

If I had to wager a guess, there's a fixed cost to offering the streaming service and the WCHA needs to bring in enough revenue on the service to cover the costs. Since most of our programs are of the smaller variety, there's only so many fans to spread those costs around. We don't have the economy of scale that something like NHL GC has.

UAF uses Stretch for its other sports and it works fine.

Big hit for BGSU, all-rookie defenseman, Nolan Valleau reportedly signed a multi-year deal with Chicago.

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

A couple coats of paint, and that makes the Verizon Wireless Arena now an NCHC target?

Well Hell, I'll chip in a few bucks for paint at the BEC. :D

down here in the Great Black Swamp, we like our non-modern arena a lot more than we like the NCHC. :D

Fellow maverick fans....I've gotten the feeling from public comments that it wouldn't be a slam dunk that msu would even go if asked to join the nchc. Am I the only one that has that feeling? Attendance is up, results are up, I'm not sure what finances really are though. Thoughts?

I think there would be a strong push to accept if asked, given that fellow In-state and NSIC rivals SCSU and UMD are NCHC, and UNO and NoDak are both closer than any WCHA school besides Bemidji. But as you note, why mess with something that's working, especially given the opportunity to schedule the other MN schools non-conference and in the North Star Cup?

Right. We have some good scheduling arrangements in the non conference. Obviously, the #1 consideration is travel costs. The wcha is definitely a bigger expense in that regard. Is that enough of a change in costs? I'm not sure it is, but I'm not certain.

One thing ive learned about schlossman, is that he focuses so much on on-ice stuff in these situations that you have to take his suggestions with a grain of salt. Take for example his insistence that the realignment was good for schools like mtu and msu since they are more competitive, all the while 8gnoring that their expenses sky rocketed. He tends to not tell the whole story in those instances.

I'm not sure the nchc would even consider msu, Bsu, mtu or bgsu. Frankly, our schools don't add much in theor historical line of thinking. We don't add substantial markets, we don't add financially to the tourney. We don't add huge fan bases. It's unfortunate, but realistically, we add a shorter trips and an additional weekend on the schedule. I love my schools, but from their line of thinking, that's the reality.

I don't have to worry about budgets, but from my perspective, I'm not sure what msu would gain outside of shorter trips either for the reasons already stated.

I think bowling green is the one that makes the most sense because it will help keep the league together by giving Miami/Western some more close conference games.
