2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

To respond way too seriously to what was intended as humor (hey, it's what I do) I suspect that this is a year in which the fans of the teams in the top half of the top ten are painfully aware of their own team's flaws (and I think everyone this year has them) and less aware of the other teams' flaws.
I suspect your suspicions have merit. ;)

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

1 Boston College
2 Minnesota
3 Harvard
4 Wisconsin
5 Quinnipiac
6 Boston University
7 Clarkson
8 St. Lawrence
9 Mercyhurst
10 Minnesota-Duluth

This is based on the season as a whole. Who do I think would have any chance to win if the tournament was held tomorrow (which it virtually is)? Top 4 and Clarkson.

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

Regular season finished, time to look at "pumping up the jam" for the top ten.

1. BC - Jean Luc Ponty "Egocentric Molecules" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ern1i86OS4 Joaquin Leivano is a very underrated guitarist.
2. Minnesota - Prince "Lets Go Crazy" http://www.videoscache.com/prince-and-the-revolution-lets-go-crazy-video-lyrics/817/ Made in Minnesota.
3. Wisconsin - Focus "Hocus Pocus" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4ouPGGLI6Q Interesing speed yodeling.
4. Harvard - Rage Against The Machine "Wake Up" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wauzrPn0cfg No need to explain.
5. Clarkson - Chase "Get It On" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4SW2Z3_d8I Trumpets!
6. UND - Guns N Roses "Welcome To The Jungle" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr8-E8may2Y Cliché but they host the WCHA tournament.
7. Quinnipiac - Lynyrd Skynyrd "Free Bird" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np0solnL1XY Who doesn't like a southern rock jam?
8. BU - Boston "Smokin" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GzMx9CnhVk Captain Obvious. Sweet organ however.
9. UMD - He Is Legend "Attack Of The Dungeon Witch" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwzYc4qHJt8 Hellish screaming at the end.
10. St. Lawrence - Alan Parsons Project "Sirius" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCR85u9QngQ Somebody had to have this...Worked for the Bulls

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

Final poll for 2014/2015 with a question or two for the off-season

1. Minnesota - What is the definition of a dynasty? Are we going to be able keep whatever this is going?
2. Wisconsin - What is it going to take to beat Minnesota?
3. Harvard - Are we going to have to answer anymore questions about Hannah Brandt?
4. BC - How did we have this much talent and not win the national championship? Where can we get some cupcakes?
5. BU - Can we get some goaltending help and also some fries with that?
6. Quinnipiac - Who can we talk to about getting a couple of clones of Taylar Cianfarano?
7. UND - How do we conquer the big two in the WCHA? Seriously, who wants to stay in Grand Forks for the summer?
8. Clarkson - How do we get ourselves back to 2013/2014 form?
9. Bemidji - Can we find any more Gopher rejects?
10. UMD - How do we make this Miller thing go away and does somebody know Joel Johnson's phone number?

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

2) Kidnap Leveille.
3) When the questions about Brandt stop, the questions about Cameranesi begin.
4) Less carbs, more meat
5) The bigger question is what will life be like post Poulin & Lefort
7) Compared to Winterpeg, Grand Forks is the French Riviera.

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

Final poll for 2014/2015 with a question or two for the off-season
1. Minnesota - Because of the turnover in players every year I have no idea how they have done it this long. This should not be possible.
2. Wisconsin - I don't know but I fear the day they figure it out
3. Harvard - there are a couple of kids on that team besides Hanna and a couple big guns joining next year, those questions will never end until Harvard wins
4. BC - They need to dodge the cupcakes, come out West & learn what it takes to elevate your game because you have to
5. BU - I was actually more impressed with BU against MN than BC against Harvard
6. Quinnipiac - There is more talent coming up now then ever before, just gotta get out there and close the deal
7. UND - There is a lot of karma yet to be repaid
8. Clarkson - see #6
9. Bemidji - Funny but I think the focus on one big gun hurts the whole team, takes more than one run-away to finish above 9
10. UMD - There is going to have to be some rebuilding. The won when Miler got all the talent from overseas, now that some are going to UND, BSU, OSU and East 10 is aspirational unless they can get better talent more locally

But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

The questions were really rhetorical but it's cool you answered them. :)

BTW, the Harvard question should be answered with yes. It's about a coach and the snub.

Re: 2015 USCHO Posters Poll -- 2nd Half

I think there have been some good points...and one I'd like to address.

I think the smarter eastern schools have got to get some top western schools on the schedule. You could say 'well, yeah...but they won't schedule us'. Well they might but it might not be a fair deal. Its simple...due to SOS western schools are loaded with tough games. They have no incentives or interest in travelling east to make their schedule harder...when they're probably satisfied leading the country in SOS. Eastern schools...Harvard, BC, BU, others looking to crack national recognition need to take a 1 for 2 deal or even a 0 for 2 deal to get into UW, UMD, ND, MN. They need to do it to give a reality check and get them battle tested. They need to do it to evaluate western play systems first hand. They need to do it to get accustomed to playing west of the appalachians as that's where many playoffs will be. They need to do it to get exposure to MN, arguably the best recruiting grounds for young ladies in the world (and I don't think that's an exaggeration). And they're going to have to ask nicely for the opportunity. Because they need to do it for the good of their program.

I 100% agree. There is no other way for an eastern school to truly gauge their strength. I bet most western coaches would give a 2-1 deal against the stronger eastern teams. The weaker eastern teams would probably get the 2-0 deal. It's the "You need us more than we need you" premise. See BC.

The problem is though, if you schedule tougher teams and lose, despite the fact that you are ultimately a better team, you may not get a chance to prove it, you’ll be left out of the season ending tournament.

FWIW
MN state HS teams are the exact opposite of college, they schedule the absolute best teams for NC games that they can. Ultimately they know that is the best way to make it to St. Paul ( and also give their players exposure, and ultimately the best HS experience).

Why is that?

Because the season ending tournament is one and done. No conference tournaments, everyobody participates.
The problem with the NCAA is the method used to pick the teams that participate. The conference tournaments screw up the selection process, which is already screwed up. It’s like let’s right the wrong with another wrong. Until the process changes, you won’t see teams scheduling more difficult opponents.

Currently, all the conference tournaments do is make the women’s team more of a money pit than they already are. Nobody attends the conference tournament (unlike the men which are mostly a money maker) and they don’t do much to alter the teams that participate, they only make small changes to the seeding.
