2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Or at least a bad something. Didn't want to say it myself but it did indeed cross my mind. Believe it or not I try to not be too cynical, but I wonder about TVG at times. Just don't understand how anyone with any moral base at all willingly trains with Wonderlance. Especially in the "post-Armstrong Era." Seriously can't find anyone else on the planet to moto-pace you on training rides? Try to give guys benefit of the doubt but it's tough, which is exactly why almost everyone involved in the sport, especially David Millar, from about 1991-2005 should go burn in hell.

But, but, but ... David Millar said on ITV4 yesterday that Dawg is cleans.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Oh, XYZ, I forgot to mention that few days ago, Monday maybe?, they had your man Farrar on set for a post race interview. Not quite the feature you ask about, but likely as close as it will get.

It's a horse race between him and Hincapie for biggest fraud in the sport.

In other news, final climb today is Montvernier. Not the hardest climb in the world but perhaps one of my favorites. Roads don't get made much more awesomely than the one they'll ride up that thing. This was used in the Dauphine as well, I think...

It was. Good climb.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Updated info on TVG...I guess it was a respiratory infection and not a headache. Hmph.

As for the guys left, it's too bad that Froome has the lead he does as a Tour that looked like it could end with some epic battles in the Alps now has become fairly boring from a MJ standpoint. Froome has no reason to attack, no reason to worry about anyone other than the Movistar duo, and Movistar itself seems to be riding to hold the podium and not win the race. Contador and Nibali are too far back to threaten Froome at this point so all he has to do is sit on the wheels of what has been thus far a relatively lifeless Movistar. Won't be able to watch the next two stages and right now that doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did three weeks ago. I don't think I will at this point, but hopefully I don't miss something epic re the MJ. Upshot is I'm sure guys lower down in GC will animate things the same way they have been for two weeks, so should still make for entertaining stages overall.

Saw an amusing tweet from a Katusha domestique earlier: "I do not know who built the Alps, but I do not like him."

That was just an amazing bit of road. They better keep using that, as often as they can.

Neat thing about it is that it could be used in a variety of ways. Could be a mid-stage bit of scenery to soften guys up, could be used near the end but not quite at the end like today, or could be used as a summit finish which would be a nice change of pace from most of the French climbs which could lead to some puncheurs having a go. Have I mentioned the road itself is awesome? :)

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I hunted up some Dauphine footage, because i didn't remember that climb at all. I know I was doing some other stuff at the same time as watching the Dauphine, but I couldn't believe I'd never paid attention to that climb. Turns out that they'd gone over it before coverage began for the day.

That's even sweeter than Alpe D'huez, and maybe even the Stelvio and Gavia. That heli shot was breathtaking.

You know what's especially nice about that climb? As a spectator you can go up to the cliff on the top and have a nice view for a long time. Where else in the entire race can you do that.
I was thinking about the bad blood bag comment, and you know I can't think of any other plausible solution. Sadly. I don't see anyone, let alone tjv withdrawing from a respiratory infection.
I was shocked Fugalsang was knocked down by a motorbike and still managed to finish fifth. Helped my team's standings for sure.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

LOL Phil just said something that made me laugh. "Today is the day the robots became human."

Also who brought back Thomas from last year?

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Sky finally blew up.....will it last one more day or will they be back tomorrow in full force?

Quintana was able to put 30 seconds into Froome but the deficit is still 2:30 I think so barring a major collapse Froome should still be safe.

Nibali making a bid at the podium with his ride today. He's catching up to Valverde for third. Should be a great stage tomorrow.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I don't understand the tactics today from some teams. Sky is in trouble so Lotto Jumbo goes to the front Why? I guess to protect Robert Geesink's 6th place cause 6th place is 1,000,000 times better than finishing in 7th. Ditto for Trek Mollema's in 10th place. Then even Tinkoff and Movistar go to the front and then after all that Quintana finally attacks with 5 K to go and pretty much no chance to take the jersey unless Froome totally blows up. Movistar seems content to finish second just like 2012.

I don't understand the whole outrage over Nibali attacking Froome. I don't remember anyone waiting for Contador when he fell so 1st place doesn't have to wait for 5th place but 8th place and 8 minutes down has to wait for the jersey cause he slipped a chain. Sorry you meant to attack there but you've got to sit up and wait for Froomie. Froome of course is so sportsmanlike outsprinting guys at the line when he could gift them a place or two.

Obviously Thomas forgot to eat his Wheaties this morning. :D

How about 2013 on the Alpe where Froome forgot to eat so he made Porte go illegally get him food. Or where Astana attacked Contador in the Giro this year. Or any of the eleventy billion times that Valverde has been randomly dropped in Grand Tour. I'm thinking of the time he went to get a raincoat and suddenly got caught on the wrong side of a split.

All I remember is Sky getting on the radios immediately after Contador went down a few days ago and then staying on the front. If it had been Gesink that attacked yesterday would Froome have thrown his little tantrum? Didn't think so.

Nah, they didn't blow up. Saving it for today. I refuse to believe that famed mountain goat Wouter Poels was their second strongest guy yesterday. :)

I guess it's possible that Thomas and Porte have been pushing it so much and finally totally blew up but Koenig, and Roche haven't been up there in the end and should have something left

I forgot that Team Sky is one of the teams that started illegally feeding their riders outside the feed zone, in 2011 I think and ended up getting fined like 500 euros or something for it. Not sure if that is still being utilized or if the commissar's put the kibosh on it.

Hopefully their will be some animation in the break today, I am guessing a fight between Bardet and Rodriquez for polka dot points, Froome better not win this I'm thinking a win on top of Alpe Duez is worth 50 if he wins the stage. I not thinking much from the top guys but hoping that Contador and Nibali, the only two I suspect will do anything, will go for broke.

Quintana is trying and has a minute but the gap is just too much looks like. Valiant effort.
