2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I've been enjoying the tour of Portugal, which has a bunch of guys you never heard of. The commentators have spent some time discussing the effects of Ritchie Porte on TJV and the rest of BMC. It's pretty much all that I can understand, other than them saying thank you to the team directors, who they interview during the race.

And Donaldson is suitably offended of course.

Guess the ball's in Vaughter's court now, eh?

Nah, it's predictable from here. Those were old policies and things are different now that Cannondale is part owner. You expect anything different from the guy who chocked Hesjedal's abnormal week three blood values in the 2012 Giro up to "machine calibration error."?

Come on. I understand that people in all walks of life look to gain an edge on the rest of us via nefarious means, but let's not lie about it as that moves it into the realm of trying to insult our intelligence. Which I find infinitely more perturbing than some dunce like Tommy D. being a lifelong loser. But of course, he continues to lie, too. His ex-wife must be loving this.

And there's the unsurprising result, with an amusing reply to boot:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/Vaughters">@Vaughters</a> those good people would be better off without you.</p>— Lance Armstrong (@lancearmstrong) <a href="https://twitter.com/lancearmstrong/status/628631130078515200">August 4, 2015</a></blockquote>

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I'd like to take a moment to formally acknowledge that for the first time I remember, I saw SKY actually use tactics. Mike Snow launches a powerful attack in Poland about 15 K to go. When he finally gets caught Henao launches a perfect counter for the stage.

Rooting for Ulissi tomorrow... Go Lampre!

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Dombrowski left everybody in the dust going up Snowbird, the two "pro's" Schleck and Horner sat on the Continental guy, Mike Woods, wheel on the way up.

So Dawg will ride the Vuelta. See how the Sky 6 month super peak works.

Gunning to be first ever to pull off Tour-Vuelta double, so I just read.

Speaking of The Dawg, how's Sky coming along with that independent testing they promised?

Wow, those Sky riders are super impressive! You mean people like Anquetil and Hinault haven't managed to pull that off? #marginalgainsequallargegains

I don't think he can pull it off. He'll gas out like last year and it's a really strong field. Plus recent Vueltas have been pretty bonkers in general. Really curious to see what Astana has planned -- gotta think Aru might be the guy for them. Since I'm too lazy to check out CQ, him and Landa have had relatively light workloads since the Giro, no?

Edit: If Froome does somehow pull it off I'm going to throw my TV into the lake like it's some sort of discus.

I know Aru was in Poland and think Landa was in San Sebastian. And yes the field is stacked but most of them have some draw back. Quintana is possibly riding for Piti, Piti is, well, Piti. I don't think Aru can win and Landa won't be allowed to and Nibs is dealing with the same Tour as Dawg. TVG is TVG. I doubt Pozzo can beat Froome especially with a TT involved. But I have every reason to expect that Astana should be very well prepared. Actually the Sky Team will be rediculous too, Henao and Nieve setting it up for super-climber Thomas!

And while I think your referring Lake Geneva or some Swiss lake, my TV might do the same thing.

Lake Thun, but close enough :)

In other news...heard about this but hadn't seen it until now. Ouch, ouch and ouch.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

These guys are pro riders, do they not know how to approach a corner? Pretty much every one of them was on the inside of the yellow line.

The second two are a bit easier to explain, but that first guy (MTN-Qhubeka's Matt Brammeier)...sheesh. Not only was his line terrible but man he was coming in hot. Even if the car hadn't been there he was destined to shoot straight through the corner and into the woods. No clue what he was thinking. Thankfully he has no head or neck injuries -- pelvis and ribs are cracked up and that's about it, I believe.

Learn how to post a link from your phone ya noob. ;)

Not my fault the board software is lagging behind the times :p

It was pretty unbelievable to watch, I have to think his brakes were not working as he thought they would. He was pretty lucky to not have it be worse.

Amusing happenings in Eneco Tour today.

1. Last week FDJ announces it will not renew contract of David Boucher.
2. Today Boucher defies team orders and gets in the break.
3. Later in stage, FDJ leadout train is worthless and Demare has to go it alone.
4. FDJ sends Boucher home.
5. Boucher pouts on twitter.

You forget a couple of important parts... Demare comes 2nd to Tommeke!
Also Etixx had destroyed the bunch regardless of what Boucher would have done.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

The ENECO Tour has been great racing! Kaplemuur tomorrow too! I think Wellens has it but it has been fun to watch, especially without Sky killing the racing.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Who's got the coverage for the Colorado classic? The only thing coming up on my dvr, which is set to tape all cycling events, is stage 7 which is on NBC. They aren't showing this on NBC Universal are they? I assume Universal still has the Vuelta.

As an update on everyone's favorite cyclist ;) I was watching diners drive ins and dives the other day and who do they have as a celebrity recommending a restaurant but Levi Leipheimer. He hasn't faded totally into oblivion unless it was filmed several years ago but it was supposed to be a new episode.
