2015 Pairwise Discussion & Predictions

Re: 2015 Pairwise Discussion & Predictions

I was going to make a lame joke about conic sections, and lo and behold, when I looked it up, it turns out that there is actually a rhetorical device called "parabole" just as there is a rhetorical device called "hyperbole." Each spelled with an "e" at the end instead of an "a." This is twice in two days I've learned something really esoteric from this board (the other being Hugh de Merville).

"2.(rhetoric) The explicit drawing of a parallel between two essentially dissimilar things, especially with a moral or didactic purpose. A parable."

yeah, but is she really a Native American or did she just check the wrong box?

Re: 2015 Pairwise Discussion & Predictions

I would guess that BU would fly home. The SLU case was during break I'm pretty sure -- missing an entire week of school probably wouldn't be ideal.

Plus it's not like Minneapolis is the next town over.

Is next week not March break in some places ?

Edit: Looked it up. BU is on March break THIS WEEK !.

And here's an opportunity to use that great Latin rhetorical device, praeteritio: "I pass over in silence, and make no comment whatsoever upon, the curious juxtaposition of BU with academics...."

Not too happy about the draw that BU got. I would have much rather had another shot at Harvard after the beat down we took last time as opposed to going out west to face UW and if we somehow win, face Minny just to get to the championship game. Very difficult bracket. It's too bad too because as others have mentioned, I think the bracket could have been improved as well by avoiding the intraconference matchup between Harvard and Quinnipiac.

I understand your frustration. I'm not thrilled with the Crimson having to face the Bobcats for the fourth time this season. But when I weigh that angst against having to face a BU team that is playing lights out at the moment and wanting revenge for the Beanpot in the worst way possible, then facing Quinnipiac may be the lesser of two evils.

Might be a conscious decision by NCAA to get the east out to play the west.

Re: 2015 Pairwise Discussion & Predictions

Assuming CCT/BC takes 2 hrs, is it possible to get to Bright is less than an hour?

I presume you R asking Conte to Bright, and yes on a Saturday 30 minutes tops. It's only about 5 miles or so, but you know that Bhastan Traffic, can be a B.

Clarkson will have the game won by the end of period 2. You'll have plenty of time to get to Bright. :)

Re: 2015 Pairwise Discussion & Predictions

Time to put predictions down for next weekend:

Boldy go where you have not gone before....LLAP....

RIT at Minny ..... Rit will keep it under five, but the Gophers will not falter twice in a row.... 4-1 Gophers

Clarky at BC ..... BC got too much speed and firepower, Clarkson D will keep it tight .... 3-1 Eagles

Quinny at Harvard ...This ECAC semi rematch could have gone either way last weekend
.............................he betting money is on the Crimson, but I like the Bobcats in this one ... 2-1 Bobcats in OT

BU at Wisco .... The Wings match....... A few years ago BU fell to Wisco in the tourney...
......................This time it's Poulin's swan song... I put my money on her .... 2-1 BU

...There you have it.... Take a swing at it.....

I'll go with:
RIT at Minny .... Gophers dominate in shots and time of possession, and will this time find the back of the net .... 7-1 Gophers

Clarkson at BC ..... Close, low scoring game for the first period plus, but the Eagles get their offense rolling and win going away, 5-1

Quinnipiac at Harvard ..... Close, hard-fought defensive battle, but Harvard will ultimately prevail 3-2, or 4-2 with an ENG

BU at Wisconsin ..... Exciting and close game, but I think the Badgers will prevail at home, as long as their band is there, of course. ;)
Either way, going with the Badgers, 3-1 in this one.

3.3 miles in Boston traffic makes this a tight race, but even if I miss the opening faceoff or two, I expect the game will still be up for grabs.

come back and complain when you have to face the same team 6 times

the current setup makes no sense
when the men play a conference tournament, it is an opportunity to make more money
when the women play, it just costs more money

and with so few teams, what is the point?
the top 4 seeds did not change at all despite #1 & 2 getting beat
in fact there was no change in the final 8, except the CHA team
