2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

And Minnesota being third won't last very long.

Right, I have them 2nd already. My hope is that UM and UW are 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd in either combo to avoid an ncaa semi matchup (yes I am thinking FAR ahead).

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I'm curious to see how Princeton/Colgate and Q/Colgate games goes, Colgate and Princeton are on my radar for the 9-11 spot. Could be Q's shot at getting a little more respect (they play Cornell also).

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1) Wisconsin
2) Minnesota
3) Boston College
4) Bemidji State
5) Clarkson
6) North Dakota
7) Quinnipiac
8) Northeastern
9) Harvard
10) Minnesota-Duluth

I could be talked into ranking the top three in any order and the teams from 4-8 in any order.

Its my belief that M & W end up in the same bracket no matter where in the top 4 they fall. The NCCA likes that East-West final. I am really looking forward to that first week in December. For my own reasons that most of you would probably laugh at I picked the Badgers this season and that weekend should tell me if I am right. But then it really will be a weekend in March that matters; I hope it is for the trophy.

It doesn't work that way. The bracket is set up so #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 in the semifinals in all cases.

Yes and it strikes me as odd how often that has meant East/East and West/West semi-finals. Given that I place zero faith in the polls (lack of common opponents, lack of significant numbers of inter-league games) my naturally suspicious nature leads me to postulate that travel costs and a pleasing symmetry have an impact on the final poll. In one way that is not terrible. Because of the lack of comparisons it does give teams that might be superior but not ranked as high a shot at the final game. (thats a pretty short and clumsy explanation so pick away)

Except that someone like TTT can say with 95% certainty how the teams will be seeded based on math. In recent years, the math has kind of pushed UW and UM to the same side of the bracket. If one wins all the games (UM), it moves into #1 and shoves the other (UW) down to #4. If they split the games, they drift to #2 and #3 instead. However, BC would have been #1 last year if it had beaten BU in the HEA final, so there's always many factors at play.

IMO, the best chance of BC finishing #1 is if MN & WI split, so let's keep the current MN streak over WI going
I'd hate to see you not get your wish :)
I can't imagine any other team making the top 3 this year, in fact I'd say the probability is high of UND or BSU making the NCAA, given the seeming equality in the ECAC, which seems to have the most interesting conference fight going.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Not a lot going on this weekend

1) Wisconsin -- Idle
2) Minnesota -- Idle
3) Boston College -- #Pray4BU

There's definitely no longer a top 4. It's a top 3 and then the rest.

4) Clarkson -- Really, really had a hard time deciding which team of CU and NU to put higher. Neither of these teams have done anything particularly impressive. It's really close but I have to Clarkson... for now.
5) Northeastern -- See above.
6) Bemidji State -- League sweep gives them a bump.
7) North Dakota -- Very close with BSU.
8) Harvard -- Getting back on track.
9) Quinnipiac -- Decent 1-0-1 weekend, staying steady.
10) Princeton -- Now with a loss but still feel like this is the right spot for them.

4. NE: Coyne operated
5. Bemidji: UW without the scoring

Badgers
Eagles
Gophers
Beavers
Huskies
Golden Knights
Flickertails (would be higher if they could win without paying off the refs)
Crimson
Bobcats
Tigers

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Man oh man. Three teams with a clear claim to second place, none with an overwhelming claim to first.

1. UM -- Depth, depth, depth
2. UW -- Did nothing this weekend but Bemidji's straightforward wins over an OSU that gave them trouble last year makes Bemidji look better and so makes Wisconsin's casual handling of them look better too. I still wonder how deep their forwards will turn out to be against good opposition.
3. BC -- I would love to see them play Wisconsin and/or Minnesota. The PP and PK continue to roll on.

4. Clarkson
5. Harvard -- believe
6. BSU -- I had them below UND last week but above this week, just because.
7. UND -- I had them above Bemidji last week but below this week, just because.
8. NE -- A sense that their defence isn't quite up to snuff keeps them down here.
9. Quinnipiac
10. Princeton -- Fifth in the Pairwise? Maybe worth taking seriously.
