2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I think it's safe to start the week...

1 Wisconsin - train keeps a rollin', Minnesota in the tracks up ahead!
2 Minnesota - big game vs Wisco 12/4 and 12/5
3 Boston College - Beast in the East, beat Northeastern handily (yawn)
4 Quinnipiac - keep winning by limiting shots on net, but they need goals from more players
5 Harvard - same promising but sluggish start as last year (which might be good 'cause it ended in Nat'l finals)
6 Bemidji - tight defense and good goal distribution makes this team tough to beat
7 Northeastern - they beat who they are supposed to beat (the inverse is also unfortunately true)
8 UMD - split with a very good Harvard squad
9 UND - underwhelmed by a 5-2 loss to the Orange, but can repent with a good weekend against BSU
10 Clarkson - I don't think any other team deserves to take this spot away right now

St Lawrence - they could go 5-0 before facing Harvard in mid-Jan (season defining game for them)

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1 - WI
2 - BC
3 - MN
4 - Q, Brrmidji ( I believe the guy said you could have ties)

after this it is a crapshoot, seeing the Harvard-UMD matchup, UMD does belong in the conversation, they were very good on Friday, all 3 lines played better than Harvard, with BrickALick, Cava, and Stalder looking like they owned the place, and their young defense looked good too, keep in mind their most experienced blueliner is a JR. ( a, as in one, all the rest are underclassmen) Harvard could only score with the benefit of UMD playing 2 short. It was a gritty win for Harvard on Saturday, WI/BC or MN would have eaten them up and spit out the bones. But then I guess BC did that last year and lost to them when it counted. So who knows?

6- Harvard Clarkson or NE
9 UMD, Fighting Flickerdoodles

I should probably rate WI/BC/ MN as a tie for #1
but I guess that will be resolved this coming weekend

You can put ties but I don't input them as ties -- I input the first team you list as 1st, the second team you list as 2nd... So there are effectively no ties whether you call them that or not.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1. UW
2. UM
3. BC
4. QU
5. BSU
6. Hahvahd
7. Clarkson
8. NE
9. UMD
10. UND

UMD returns to the top ten with a big win over Harvard, but then loses the Mythical D-1 Championship belt in the rematch. They may regret that before all this is over.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

then I'd put Harvard lower except that I haven't seen Clarkson or NE play.
I'm not even sure why I put Harvard over UMD
I'm going on record here and now saying UMD will be a better team by years end than either Brrrmidji or the Flickerdoodles.

Now I am really struggling. How on earth does NoDak get blown away by Syracuse? That gets cancelled out I guess by beating Minnesota, so they get to stay. But they're closer to 11th than they are to 8th, in my opinion.

9) North Dakota

I'm not inclined to put a 6-10-0 team in the top ten. But given how much everyone else has tripped over themselves trying to avoid staying in the top 10 lately, a pair of splits with NoDak and Harvard at least shows that right now they are playing at a level equal to a couple others who are already in. So they get my vote.

10) Minnesota-Duluth

Great minds...can disagree, but this time they don't.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Clarkson being ranked 5-8 doesn't seem right to me. Only quality wins were opening weekend vs SLU. After that, against quality/ranked teams, losses and ties.

Both KRACH and Rutter have Clarkson sixth. There are only four teams in the country with fewer losses. Plus, it is subjective to say that SLU is a quality team but BU isn't, given BU has the better record.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

The previous few comments highlight the question I asked, in a round about way, that was never answered.
Given the lack of common opponents, the limited number of games each of us has seen and the general lack of comparables, how can anyone have more than a vague opinion on rankings? Not that it isn't a fun topic to argue about but I'd love to hear a few of you describe how you come to the conclusions you do. I am not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone just courious how you make your choices.

EDIT: on the subject of ranking, I noticed PWR asterisks some teams with the note "Team's RPI has been adjusted to remove negative effect from defeating weak opponent." yet some teams (e.g. UND and NU) are not so noted. I assume both have beaten weak teams so what makes the difference.

I don't take it seriously enough to object to, or even be puzzled by other posters rankings.
