Our best line at the end of season --> far and away was Neil, Barton, Herlihey --> NO SIZE THERE; Ferreria, Davies, and Sneath were Solid--> No size there. Give me a kid with some talent, work ethic, and heart... I don't care if he's 6'8" or 5'4". It's DIII College hockey, Size and mad skills are all gobbled up by D1 schools.

lol.....you must have been BUSTING to send that sooner or later......good luck with the statesmen, hope you do well

:D I was and thanks, they were in both games out there until the 3rd so there's a chance.
I look forward to the game(s) against you guys every year. It's become quite the non-conference rivalry.

Re: 2015-16 Oswego State Lakers Hockey #LakePlacidOrBust #NoMoreDrivesToAdrian #GoLak

understood,BUT Whitelaw had 40goals his last season in the OJHL and P Rod had 2 back to back 90point seasons in the OJHL before he came to Oz...........just saying......also ya cant coach size ......and speed.........or heart for that matter
That was also before the OJHL contracted and the gap between the haves and have not's tightened up considerably. Plus with teams like Union and Quinnipiac having success at D1 with overage players that used to go D3 talent like that is harder to get.

Re: 2015-16 Oswego State Lakers Hockey #LakePlacidOrBust #NoMoreDrivesToAdrian #GoLak

Dont attack the messenger ,just say we dont seem to be getting the bluechipper with size, and or speed and or scoring, thats all, perhaps due to the old exchange rate who knows. As for the OJHL,there have been several that have gone D3...Connor Armour 6 ft 225 lbs Adrian Freshman leads team in scoring from OJHL....Matthew Thompson 6' 1" 190 lbs Adrian soph 2nd this yr in scoring 3rd last yr OJHL....Kyle Brothers 6' 1" 200 Adrian Soph GOJHL led team in scoring last yr ,5th this yr....I could go on.Dont expect to much this yr as we dont have many roster spots to fill, the next yr will be a free for all.As for transfers they are hit and miss I was one myself not sure if I was a hit or miss:eek:...Should be a great game in Platty hope the feed is better than last week.

I know that Oswego lost 2 of those 3 you listed to Adrian at the very last second. Not sure if it's the location or what but they seem to be able to get players everyone else is after while the rest of the Eastern teams are fighting over what they and D1 leaves behind.

Yea not sure what the reason for it was, there could be many, from majors at the school to girlfriends ya never know, and of course the ol'mighty $$$$$

Re: 2015-16 Oswego State Lakers Hockey #LakePlacidOrBust #NoMoreDrivesToAdrian #GoLak

As I said before, in the 13 games Oswego tied/loss this year only 4 times they were outshot (2 to Plattsburgh). While shots on goal are not a "great" way to determine who the "better" team was, I would much rather be out shooting my opponents the majority of the time. The point is they were in the games the majority of the time. Would you rather be in that position or say like Cortland or Morrisville?

When it comes to this whole "freshman" debate, put yourself in their shoes now days. Kids are coming out of Juniors wanting to be a name. Not saying this is the case with the ones you mentioned earlier, but would you rather go be on a team (could be a good team) and sit the bench behind 6-10 really good established players OR go to a team where you can walk right in and (here's the kicker) make a name for yourself right out the gate?

We won't get started on the $$$ issue, but from what I was told the cash flow has slowed in Laker Land. I don't think the has as much to go with it as much as the number of available game time roster spots this year (and next year). You're pretty much asking a kid (unless a complete star which is hard to find) to sit on the bench (3rd/4th line at most) for 2 years. Sure they could still come to Oswego and work their tails off and prove they belong on one of the top lines,.....or they could go to a place like Adrian and step right in with some many denaturing Seniors last year.

yea, these kids come out of jr's and want to play,I guess when you see so many players that are upperclassmen, may send you running for the exits, but those are some nice exits at the campus center, maybe you would think twice about running thru them:cool:...I have zero idea about the $$$,but I do know the exchange rate.Hey I loved the school, campus, town and the townspeople so I am bias for sure.Looking forward to a better season next year.

Re: 2015-16 Oswego State Lakers Hockey #LakePlacidOrBust #NoMoreDrivesToAdrian #GoLak

Back when Oswego had the financial aid they had players like Chris Brown, Chris Muise, Chris Ayotte and Jesse McConney that stood in the corner for basically two seasons before they got their chance to show what they could do. This season they had a player in Krystian Yorke that played almost every game for two seasons leave due to what I believe to be financial reasons. What this heartbreaking season does is create a lot of character in the guys coming back and like Remy says with so many stars returning it's a chance to bring in some more of the role players that are needed to win championships. Remember that key players to Laker titles like Neil Musselwhite, Brad Dormeidy, David Titanic, Owen Kelly etc. came in during years where they were only looking to replace a few bodies.

Sucks to be talking about next year whereas they are talking SUNYAC Championship/NCAAs one thread over. Agree with all you, Remy and bak are saying--good points--but I am tripping over the word "stars" describing this years team. Maybe singular--"star" is a better description. (IMO Neil)
Just too inconsistent is the only way I can describe what our boys did on the sheet this year.

Re: 2015-16 Oswego State Lakers Hockey #LakePlacidOrBust #NoMoreDrivesToAdrian #GoLak

Kenny was far and away Oswego's best player all season. He really did everything for this team every night. He scored, he blocked shots, killed penalties and just plain hustled all season. He tried to set up plays as well but too many guys just couldn't find the back of the net. I probably should have said potential stars because we have seen in their first two seasons that Botten, Galati, Hulshof, Raguseo and Johnson have that potential. And Herlihey had a great Freshman year but failed to follow it up this year. Z has been decent between the pipes, just a little inconsistent.

He had brutal numbers but then again Gloucester was pretty terrible this year. A guy that played behind a terrible defense might be pretty because Oswego is good defensively but always seems to pay for their mistakes. A guy like that might be able to mop some of them up. We shall see.

Interesting discussion concerning D3 hockey recruiting. In New England a lot of teams like UNE, Plymouth U, and even Johnson and Wales have turned into competitive teams. Some of these teams even travel to Western New York so you have probable seen the improvement. All the discussion I have had with D3 fans point to the A players that make a difference always going to the teams that offers the most financial aid or $$$. Even the team I follow, Norwich, seems to have problems landing the top recruits. Looking at the Western Teams they seem to load up with a lot of NAHL 20 year old players. Since some NAHL teams are close to Western New York I wonder why teams like Oswego have not gone in that direction? I starting to think that a top assistant and recruiter can make all the difference. The days of top recruits going to the teams with top facilities like the Campus Center seem to be over. In reference to D1 transfers I have to disagree after watching UMASS Boston D1 transfer Matt Lemire make a big difference this year. This guy is a great D3 hockey player.

Re: 2015-16 Oswego State Lakers Hockey #LakePlacidOrBust #NoMoreDrivesToAdrian #GoLak

I agree that Neil was by far our best Player this year. He had a very serious leg injury at the end of his freshman year and it may have slowed (still pretty good) him down sophomore year, he was outstanding as Junior this year. I consider Hulsuf a star player as well. I said a month ago or so, we have been badly out recruited for 2 years. I think to many "role" players are playing up in our lineup because there is no one else. That being said I thought our last 3 games were the best 3 game stretch of the year. IMO, Brune with Johnston were a great pairing the last month.
I'm hoping with the large Senior class about to leave, Ed will be able to land a few studs that can help us now. We are just a few studs away from beating anyone in the YAC.

From what I have seen at Oswego in the past few yrs of following them, they have had several D1 transfers, some have been a great help, some have played role positions on the 4th ,yes 4th line and penalty kill, some have scored a bunch and some played 50 games and had maybe 10 pts in those games,I am sticking with hit or miss, would lean towards the hit more often than miss, also there are many reason why these players transfer as well.Agree, with the point of a assistant coach as a great recruiter helps, maybe connections to those in the NAHL or other leagues helps to bring guys in,not sure what the budget has to do with sending coaches out to recruit as well.Cant comment on the $$$ thing but I would think that the private schools MAY?? have a little more wiggle room/flexibility,Remy will advise on that.

Yes Neil was not at full steam last yr as a soph,he was top shelf this yr,if we had a few more studs and they played like we did this yr,it would not have mattered, but if they played like we did vs Platty the last few games it would make a big difference. Not sure we were out recruited,I think we recruited those top/stud players but they went eleswhere for what reasons who knows ,,**it happens:p
