2014 Women's D-1 National Tournament

Interesting comment, since UND has left 7 NC games on the table over the past 5 seasons: 2 this season, 1 in 2011-12, 2 in 2010-11 and 2 in 2009-10.
UND's out-of-conference losses have come from splitting with Clarkson the last two years and BU the two season prior, plus one tie with Vermont back in 2010-11. Ignore 2009-2010, because that was a far weaker UND team. There wasn't a second blemish out of conference this season. The interesting thing is that UND wants to be able to play more games out of conference, yet it doesn't always play all six that it is currently allowed.

Re: 2014 Women's D-1 National Tournament

Wisconsin hasn't played the full 34 games either the past 2 year. Last year it probably cost them a spot in the tourney.

Re: 2014 Women's D-1 National Tournament

See this is what happens when you put your university in the middle of nowhere!

Clarkson is in the middle of nowhere and we manage to fill out a schedule.

ARM, I think the point you made unintentionally debunked the theory that the WCHA is that much better. Clarkson was able to go out to Grand Forks and split with the Sioux and UND was able to come to Potsdam and do the same. It at least insinuates that the teams are of similar quality.

I agree that they are very similar in terms of strength. Clarkson finished ranked higher both years. This year, Clarkson was much higher, and part of that was it was 1st and 2nd in the ECAC while UND was 3rd and 2nd in the WCHA. But I think if one looked at it over the long term, the team that finishes third in the WCHA will typically rank below the team that is 3rd in the ECAC, because the WCHA team has to play twice as many regular-season games against its league's first and second teams.

There you go the 3rd place WCHA team split with the Conference Champ of ECAC.......totally debunks the strength of the WCHA. Works for me.;) And UND didn't qualify for the NCAAs........

Re: 2014 Women's D-1 National Tournament

I'm still livid about the NCAA selection committee giving UMn the snub in 2001. Defending Natl Champs, winners of the WCHA regular season title, and to make the snub an even greater kick in the nutts, the Frozen Four was held in Minnesota that year.

Winner?! Frigging WCHA Regular Season RUNNER-UP UMD.

There's nowhere and then there's nowhere. From Grand Forks, it's a 13 hour drive to the closest potential non-conference opponent and 18 hours to the second closest.

Warning to all Participants...Beware the Ides of March!

And on one day shy of a full moon too. That strange brew might make for some surprising results.

:D

I'll still be rooting for my WCHA conference mates, and hence two of the favorites. Here's to hoping for a Happy St. Patrick's Day in both Minneapolis and Madison.

Regardless, a tip of the hat for a clever post.

Re: 2014 Women's D-1 National Tournament

Boyles of BC was terrific in period 1. This game could have been 3-0 Clarkson instead of 1-0 after 1. Clarkson gonna start period 2 on the pp for about 1:45.
BC did a lot of bottling up of Clarkson but Clarkson's dfense blocked a lot of shots.
