Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Heckuva series by the Wild who gave the Hawks all they could ask for.

Wild are on the path and will be contending soon I believe.

How freaking tough is the Central gonna be moving forward? Blues, Wild, Hawks, Avs?

Meat grinder.

Nice run Wild!

Just saw the high(low)light of Cooke unintentionally planting Oduya's face into the boards.

Went and played tonight instead of staying home. Was able to listen to the OT on the ride home. Maybe watch the recording of the game tomorrow.

Anyway, just a hockey play...

Bryz did the right thing staying in net. Where he goofed was thinking that Regin and Suter wouldn't overskate the puck. Hard to fault him there. He was great in the last four games of this series.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

I see Cooke and Bryz are getting the blame for the last play among Wild fans (not here, elsewhere).

That's dumb. Bryz had a great series and that last goal is not on him.

Same thing would be happening to Crow if the Hawks had lost despite his .971 save % up to that point.

Such a simplistic thing to do to blame the goalie disregarding all of the things that led up to the goal.

And Kaner had a solid step on Cooke. No way he's catching Kaner when that boy's smelling the glory...

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

I can't believe it, but I have a much better opinion of Bryz as he's leaving the team I cheer for than when he joined the team. He was definitely not the problem last night, and he hasn't been the problem all series. You can't expect to beat the Hawks scoring only one goal. Crawford was excellent, as the Wild had tons of chances to with that one.

Overall, this season is a very good step in the right direction. The Wild are right there with the Hawks. One more season for Granland, Coyle, Brodin, Haula, Fontaine, Nino. Add in a FA, Matt Dumba on the back-end and some stability in goal and the Wild compete for the cup next year.

He's a changed man. It's the playoffs, what do you expect when you wave it under his nose like that. He's only human.

Back to reality... Put me in the "I took the Wild for granted" camp, but they really showed me something during this serious. They will indeed be a force next year.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Looking ahead to next year, and playing with CapGeek a bit, the Wild have quite a bit of cap space to play with. I would like to see them sign 1 high end FA (Vanek), maybe a solid depth guy on the blue line, and then start to sign the kids long-term. Stoner is a UFA that they should re-sign, and they need to get RFA Niederreiter and Fontaine locked up for 5 and 3 years, respectively. Also, make Granlund, Brodin and Coyle happy with a pay bump and extension.

In goal, it is much tougher. First, what do they do with Josh Harding? As much as I hate to say it, I think they have to cut ties with him as a player, keep him with the organization, but they can't deal with his continually worsening medical condition and how that throws the goalie situation into flux. He was the best goalie in the league through December, had his meds adjusted, and didn't see gametime the rest of the year, that is not going to work long-term. Get Kuemper signed up to be the starter, with Backstrom as the veteran backup, if they think he has anything left, at all. If he doesn't, buy him out and find a veteran backup FA.

much like Heatley last year, I don't think they can buy out Backstrom because he is injured.

They can't use a compliance buyout. I think they can still buy him out, but that $$$ still counts against the cap. His cap hit isn't high enough to justify the use of a compliance buyout. There really isn't anyone on the team that they would use the compliance buyout on.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

What if they move him from player to member of coaching staff??

That might end up being what they have to do with Harding. I don't see them doing the same with Backstrom. And I think Backstrom thinks he can still play. If he isn't playing in MN, he'll be giving it a shot somewhere else.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Pretty much assumed that Byslma is done in da Burgh, but let me throw this out there. There's the typical post-collapse chatter about trading Malkin, Fleury and others, but what are the odds that Shero REALLY shakes things up by dealing Sid?

A couple of guys on GPL (can't remember who) were advocating using the compliance buyout on Koivu.

This. All four of these teams will be Cup Contenders next season...probably for several seasons. Should be some great hockey played in the division in the near future!
