Playoff Bickell and Playoff Crawford are very good.

I didn't get to see the game since I was working this afternoon, but Bickell was all the radio guys were talking about during the post game show... Seems like he really had himself a game :)

He's going to end up with more points during the playoffs than he had during the entire 82 game season.

granted i don't see every rangers game but when i do, i fail to see how derek dorsett helps the team.

He was fantastic. His physical presence is just so tough to defend. It helps that he's playing with Toews and Hossa, who have both been fantastic.

Granted he did only play 58 games.. However he is shattering his points per game.

Meanwhile, the acquisition of Moulson isn't helping in a playoff push at all.

If they had Cooke available for game 3, I think Yeo would scratch him. I don't know if he'd want Velliuex playing, although Haula has been solid, so he could eat more of Moulson's minutes?

This series is going to be over quickly if Minnesota doesn't get tougher in front of the net or bury more opportunities.

Bryz has been fine, and is making the stops he should, but in the playoffs you need a goaltender that can stop some that he shouldn't and steal some goals. Kuemper was doing that, albeit not super consistently, but moreso than Bryzgalov. I'd be surprised if this series goes longer than 5 if Bryz ata the entirety.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

So my 70yo+ mother texted me her analysis of the series so far.

For context - I don't come from much of a hockey family. We went to Hawks games when I was growing up, but for my dad, it was more business related than that he actually liked hockey or the Hawks. I loved it and it changed my life - got me to start playing and now my kids come from a hockey family and I have no doubt that it will be passed down to the next generations.

Mom never went to any games and she briefly watched some Hawks games in 2010 and watched all of the playoff games last year. That's it.

Here's her take:

"2 my uneducated eye this series feels entirely different. Maybe coz starting in Chicago? It doesn't seem so edgy, so at every moment everything might blow out of control. I just feel like I'm watching a hockey game that the Hawks will win."

Spot on Mom! Move over Milbury. :D

Now... I realize that things can change in a series quickly and that this is far from over. I will say that the Hawks have sleepwalked through both of these games though and won. I don't like the level of effort and I think they're playing with fire, but having watched them this entire season, they won't get motivated until the other team forces them to.

My belief is that Minny will win tomorrow on home ice as I don't expect the Hawks to take it seriously yet. Game 4 will be the pivot - one way or the other.

He... umm... yeah, I don't know. He doesn't have a broken hand, so I guess that's one thing he's got going for him over Kreider anyway. As for why he's playing instead of, say, JT Miller, I don't really know.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

I seldom watch the wild, but I like their style. They need their #1 between the pipes , but this game is amazingly close and the wild are outplaying chicago.
Usually when a team doesn't have a number goaltender it's because they haven't developed well. In the Wild's case it is extremebly bad luck with injuries that I don't think any other team in recent memory has had. It's frustrating because Backstrom, Harding and Keumper have played so well at times. Why can't they stay healthy?

That being said goaltending isn't the reason the Wild are not winning this series. It's not being able to finish and many players being invisible or making mistakes you don't see them make.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Just watched the 3rd period again while riding stationary and didn't need Mom to tell me that if the Wild could finish, this series would be at worst, 1-1.

The Hawks really need to clean up their play in their own zone or tomorrow will be a Wild win for sure. Way too many giveaways and way too many uncovered attackers around the net.

The transition game is still fantastic though, and until Minnesota figures out how to stop it, the Hawks will continue to score goals.

No matter what I would have predicted CHI in 5 or 6, but while CHI hasn't been their best as Gurt might say I think it's also fair to say that outside of the PER 2 in GAME 1 that MIN has been nowhere as good as they were at the end of the season and for most of the series against COL.

It's entirely possible that both teams are suffering a hangover from their first series. Like I said earlier in this thread, the Blues are the Hawks' new main rival and are a really tough matchup.

The Wild just beat the division winners in a close and tough 7 game series.

Can be tough to recharge so soon.

rangers 0 for last 30 on PP. that's like the 2011 bruins. somehow that ended well though.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

what was the deal with that? seems like there wasn't going to be a penalty at all as the whistle wasn't blown till well after pitt had the puck
