Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!
Every team has bandwagon fans and people will always be quicker to support a winner. But I hate the d*****bag fans who act like they have been around forever when I know the truth. And the truth is when I would go to a Wings/Blackhawks game in Chicago in the 90s, the crowd would often be a 50/50 split between fan bases. And sometimes there would actually be far more Wings fans than fans of the home team.
Yeah... one of those guys who's been around forever here... or at least since my first game in the early 80s...
I was at some of those Hawks/Wings games in the 90s and that was a function of Wings fans traveling really well and nothing else. The home games during that time were still sellouts, but the Wings were going through a great era and droves of their fans along with transplants would attend the games in Chicago.
This happens in lots of places around the country. Cubs fans going to Miller Park, Packer fans going to the Metrodome, Hawks fans going just about everywhere now, etc, etc.
I knew Hawks fans who would sell their tickets for those games for triple face and sometimes more to Wings fans and were more than happy to do it. PO'd me, but when you've got tickets to 41 games, what's one or two that you miss?
If you'd like to be factual in your criticism, the downturn in attendance happened for the most part in the 2000s and it was 100% the fault of management, which they now readily admit.
Keep embracing the butthurt though.
At one time, the Wings bandwagon was just as big. At least now you have a lot more seats to choose from at the Joe.
PS - One final thought. I've actually been around long enough to remember the Wings before Yzerman and Federov and the success that came with them and there weren't thousands of Wings fans at Chicago Stadium at that time when the Wings sucked. Funny how that works, don't you think?
