2014 NCAA Quarterfinal Boston University @ Minnesota

Re: 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal Boston University @ Minnesota

Although that second one wouldn't have counted because the BU player played it with a high stick. She needed to have the patience to wait for it to come down but got overanxious.

That was at the far end from us, so I couldn't see as well. I would've counted it. :p

Dude/Dudette, I'd love to play Internet Tough Guy with you -- I really would! But everybody else I've met here in Minnesota is pretty good and smart and generous about the hockey they watch. On top of that, my family and I had a really nice time at this afternoon's game. And so your "Maybe times have changed, but *I* thought you were supposed to be *decent*" thing -- your whole "Hey, you want to be a jerk, I guess that's your choice" thing -- it's just not up to snuff. It's ninth grade. It doesn't even fit. I think you can do better. It reeks of desperation, and I don't think that's you. Up your game, friend!

It's pokechecker We usually just point and laugh.

Re: 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal Boston University @ Minnesota

oh, because they were soundly beaten on the scoreboard
and soundly defeated shots on goal
and likely every other stat of importance

we're counting open "net chances"?

OK, if that's what makes you feel better

There's always one... We're not all sore "winners" in MN. Appreciate the MN and Hockey East fans who are knowledgeable and recognize good hockey regardless of the color of jersey. Congrats on a great season BU and good luck to the Gophers at TDBank.

As for the battle of the bands, we voted at the end of the second period. One vote for BU, one non voter (she was there to watch hockey, I think) and two for the Gopher band although one being a former Gopher band member may have made for a less than objective result. A late ballot just came in from the non voter and it is now tied 2-2 (votes being the units). She said she liked the brass section of the BU band better, although if the Gopher band that had recently marched around Ridder arena had shown up (led by a certain "crazy" person) she would have voted for the Gopher band. She is also still upset that the Gopher band was a no show in Bemidji last weekend as well. As for the game, I was a little bit more nervous about the outcome than I was at any time in last year's game with BU, but as has been stated before this team is relentless. We've watched them wear other teams down all year and yesterday was no different. What an unforgettable last game at Ridder both on offence and defense for Kelly Terry! She was a joy to watch. And didn't Baylee come back on the ice with what seemed a little extra intensity after being off for awhile! I can't wait for next weekend. It's going to be fun.

Right. Maybe three minutes later the exact same play happened, and BU almost knocked that one in as well. I turned to my wife and said, "They figured out that shot is tricky for this goalie."

It's probably me. Give me a night's sleep. I'll recharge the batteries, and tomorrow we can really trade the zingers. Thanks.

OK, you have the better band, as if anybody cares  that's pretty pathetic, it was a HOCKEY game

what next, argue over who has the prettier uniforms?

2 bands playing at the same time is just noise, but that was the whole point, wasn't it? talk about sore losers

and nobody cares what the Nancy Boys from MN here think, after all, ... well they couldn't make the 6th grade BB team either

Re: 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal Boston University @ Minnesota

Some of you are relatively new here because of the NCAA tournament. Nothing wrong with that. Just a friendly word of advice that most of us just kind of ignore pokechecker when he gets all troll-y. He's just trying to get under your skin.

Carry on.

BU had the better horn section. There. I said it. But I will also use the excuse that the normal Gopher pep band members had left town for the start of spring break, so we were left with volunteers who normally play the third part.

That was my perception as well, the main difference was the horns. I just figured that the Gopher "A" band took the trip to Indianapolis for the bouncy ball.

The trip for the BU "A" band was to Ridder. They had all their best players.

The Gopher band from a couple of weeks ago against Duluth would have been much more representative of what the Gopher band usually provides. This time we got a tiny bit of a clinker. Hey, everyone has a bad game once in a while.

At least we got the good skating Goldy.

Re: 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal Boston University @ Minnesota

I guess I should say: My saying the BU band was good doesn't mean I think the Minnesota band was therefore poor. I thought the Minnesota band was good, and fun (especially when they broke out "Bad Romance," that was cool). I didn't think the first statement could lead to the second, but on the internet a lot gets lost, or easily misread, so there's my clarification.

Thanks again UMinn, Ridder Arena, Gophers fans (and band!) for making my family's first women's Gopher game a great time.

Re: 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal Boston University @ Minnesota

Late to this thread and minor ******ing match. :)

BU had some great chances in the second that just missed an open net. I was on that end and breathed a big sigh when the shots went wide. BU's band was better, but yes, this was the Gopher band's second unit. I have a relative in the band playing that day and he doesn't make the top unit of the pep bands (but he's a frosh, he'll make it next year ;)). Did not notice the BU band playing over the Gopher band, but it could have happened.

It was also clear that the Gophers had the depth to wear down the Terriers, hence the pattern of scoring in the third. In the first two periods the Terriers neutralized Terry and the Gophers and clogged the middle well, by the third they could not keep up. I haven't watched the women much this year (men's season ticket holder) but the Gophers had the edge in speed, depth and strength. Man the Gophers D are strong, Ramsey and Gillanders in particular are beasts out there, they could carry the puck with Terrier players draped on them at times. Fun game and good match-up.
