2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

I agree the play by play announcer was pretty bad. Where was the guy that did it last year? I thought he was good. AJ did get a couple of other things right besides mentioning the momentum shifts. The icing at the end of the 2nd period was not a good time and she somewhat repeated the comment she had made at the end of last years championship game with BU that the Gophers do not panic when the other team scores. You betcha!

Could have made a drinking game out of it. I think Jasminski was the closest she got. Confused Burke/Nurse a couple times with one being #6 and the other #16. Just a mess...
Might be the number 16; she confused called a play by Brandt (#22) that hit the pipe Brausen (#16), although she called her Bronson throughout the game. Brausen is probably the Gopher least likely to do a toe drag and ring the bar, plus Brandt is a righty and Brausen a lefty. Even a name that should be easy like Sarah Davis became Sylvia Davis at one point. I heard a lot of the screwed up UW names, but I didn't remember them as well. But yeah, that's why Bill Gates invented the "mute" button.

I could handle AJ if she'd just slow down and say one thought at a time. Not things that sound like, "That was a great play by Courtney Burke. She's one of their national team players. Mark Johnson was talking about her this week. She played for Dan Koche at Shattuck. Sidney Crosby played at Shattuck. The Penguins had a BIG win last night." After a while you just wonder, where is this going?

This should have been the championship game. The final 4 seedings were an obvious tilt to the east....no matter what ANY coach says. After all, if you can't beat 'em, block 'em.

I'm not normally one to defend the NCAA 'committee', but Wisconsin's loss to Mankato and then to a lesser extent the loss to North Dakota legitimately dropped UW to #4 in the Pairwise, and into a semi match-up with Minn.

Other years, yes, the NCAA looks to screw the WCHA, but this year the seedings were legit.

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Again, while I don't think AJ did a great job as color analyst, the play-by-play person was dreadful. Mispronounced names, dead air during play, etc. Sounded like a complete novice. NCAA has had months to fill these spots and this was the best they can do?

Yes, I agree she was much worse than AJ. The play by play guys at last weekends games were about the best I've heard all year. They should have stuck with them.

You could definitely make a drinking game out of "she doesn't have numbers". But you might pass out before the end of the game.:p

What is it about a pattern of comebacks that is escaping our friends to the north? Yes, that was a great comeback in the Gold Medal game. The point was about the pattern. Got it?

Great game, or as much of it as I was able to watch. Hopefully, it will be available for later viewing.

Gorgeous goal by Bona.

And although Hux's explanation makes sense all those empty seats are still a bad visual.

:D:D:D That made my day.

This would have been a great Championship game, but the Badgers can't blame anyone but themselves for falling down to #4. When you lose 2 games in your final 3 before the NCAAs, you're going to tumble in the rankings. Wisconsin is lucky that BU got an upset over BC in the Hockey East Tourney, otherwise they would likely have been on the road for the first round. (And knowing the NC$$, they could very well have been sent to Ridder for the first game!)

Wasn't the "play-by-play guy" from last week a woman? The woman who does Bemidji radio all year long? (And yes, she would have been much better than today's announcer/)

That was two weeks ago. Trillium probably means one of the NCAA quarterfinals, which were local productions and likely not hired by the NCAA.

Yeah, I'm all for rink staff using a cattle prod or other suitable enticement to get people to sit in the seats.

They could bribe them with treats from the snack bar? :D

Right. My mistake. (Last week I got to see a game in person. :o)

We could not hear a thing at Senser's. Was going to list that as a negative, but sounds like it should go on the positive side of the ledger. Was pleased to see Noora there.

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Was she watching BouncyBall? ;)

Possibly. She was graciously posing for pictures just before the Gopher game started. After the game started, I was glued to the screen and did not see her.

The place was packed. They had the game on one screen to start. About half way through, it was on six screens that I could see and there were very audible cheers for every Gopher goal (the only game among all those options that was getting widespread cheers).

If you like that, Google "Dick's Degrees of Separation": It's halftime, which can mean only one thing: It's time for Dick's Degrees of Separation, the most mildly amusing Internet game involving college basketball! You know the drill: I give you the endpoint of a Dick Vitale tangent and you pick the path he took to get there.
