2014 Frozen Four

Re: 2014 Frozen Four

Not even close. ;)
whoosh!

My reference to the Domes was to add an historical day trip destination from the main attraction at the Arena ... sort of like conventioneers visiting the Falls while in Niagara, or the Alamo while in San Antonio ... TIC. Having a FF at the Domes would be akin to watching Kirstie Alley attempt to resurrect her career ... oh wait.

Re: 2014 Frozen Four

from Bowdoin website:
"Dumont is a native of Lewiston, Maine and graduated from Oswego State University in 1998"

Sure...I know who Jamie is and his history (I'm a bit older than him but know guys who played with him, coached with him, etc.). I was curious if he had any connections with the management team at the Colisee and therefore may have been the driving force behind why Bowdoin would have partnered with this facillity vs the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.

It's all good - just surprised that this thing landed in Lewiston and not Portland. Regardless, I am very excited the D3 Frozen Four will be coming to Maine!

Re: 2014 Frozen Four

Every college game I've ever been to at the Cumberland County Civic Center has been sort of muted. The Colisee has a better hockey atmosphere. Also Lewiston is a college town...a Nescac college town. Maybe this is just part of the long game to get Bates to sign on for a varsity team.

I think this event will get great support: four schools from two of the more competitive conferences---USM, UNE, Colby and Bowdoin all nearby. And, let's face it, Lewiston is the heart and soul of high school hockey in Maine.

+1
This is great for Maine hockey and I think the Colisee is the perfect spot to have it. As a Bowdoin alum and fan, it would be awesome to see Bowdoin play for a championship in Bates backyard!

No argument with regards to Lewiston being a hockey town and I agree the place will be packed (but I doubt the crowds will be fans of UNE, USM or Colby).

Again, I think Lewiston will be a great host city for the event and the players and fans will have a great experience. The reason for my surprise (which was shared by a handful of fellow "hockey guys" I spoke with that have played and coached for years in this area) was more related to the significant differences between the city of Lewiston and Portland. The Civic Center in Portland is surrounded by restaurants/bars/hotels/tourist attractions and has the largest airport in Maine less than 10 minutes up the road.

This article mentions how the bid process got initiated, and it has nothing to do with the assistant coach. It is how most bids are taking place these days by starting with the local community pushing the idea.

Thanks. I wasn't so sure this had anything to do with Jamie being from Lewiston (as was implied by a previous post). I think the city of Lewiston simply loves hockey and is now looking for new ways to fill the Colisee since Lewiston Maniacs (of the QMJHL) left town.

They better hope the NC$$ doesn't see this:
The Division III Men’s Hockey Championship, known in hockey circles as the Frozen Four

Probably cheaper than C4 also, which (of course) is the NC$$'s primary objective when it comes to D3 Championships.

Hoping I can make it back for that one, family in Portland has already offered to put me up!

Re: 2014 Frozen Four

I am in Green Bay and personally I am excited about a trip to Lewiston. Unfortunately my family and I can't get to Lake Placid this season but we drove there in 2008 and it was awesome-great venue and great fans at the semi-finals and finals.

I have a dumb question-it sounds like not much interest in bidding on the championships--hypothetically if there were no bids what happens?

Good luck to all in reaching the final four this season.

Not so much a case of a lack of interest... Everyone just assumed the Combined DI-DIII proposal was going to happen... But it got rejected at the very last step of the approval process, and the deadline to bid had already passed, so apparently only Bowdoin had been smart enough to say "since most of us think this is a dumb idea, maybe we should bid so that there'd be an alternative?" As it turns out, that was a brilliant decision.

As for your question... Certainly not a dumb question. You got me stumped! (although I'm no expert, of course) Perhaps Russell would know?

LMAO!!

Beats me. Watch the NCAA beg? Hold it in my living room?

I suspect the NCAA would put the word out a bit louder to get bids in and perhaps lower their requirements. Of course, they could always go back to holding it on one of the campuses of one of the final four teams like they used to.
