Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Shyler Sletta finally gave up a goal today in what may well have been her final appearance in net as a Golden Gopher. During her career she has played a total of 281 minutes and has made 78 saves. Her goal against today, coming just 32 seconds after entering the game about midway through the 3rd period, lowered her career SV% from a perfect 1.000 to .987. It's obviously a record she can be very proud of, and I'm sure will fondly remember years from now when she thinks back to her playing days at Minnesota.

I was pretty upset with that goal, .987 is not trivial but imagine having a 1.000 SV%! We were really pulling for her having a perfect career. Still, having a couple of national championship rings is pretty sweet.

At this point, she could have played like the baseball player who sits out the last game of the season to preserve the batting title but not Shyler, instead it was "put me in, coach" :)

Nice to hear but who wouldn't want to backstop this team? :D
When our son decided he wanted to be a goalie I warned him that it is a risky position. The 2nd best forward or D on a team is a star, the 2nd best minder works every bit as hard but may never see the ice from anywhere but the end of the bench. I admire that she came here knowing what her role would be and, as far as I can tell, was a great teammate. The team seems to love her so I assume she was not a whiner or a pouter. Week in and week out she worked as hard as Amanda knowing she would not play. As much as I don't have an ego I am not sure at 18-22 I could have done that.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Last night was a much better game than Friday. This was the MSU team I've been saying could be an upset menace in a couple of years, like Bemidji is now. They played hard, they have some speed, and they're very physical, though pretty clean for a physical team. They're fun to watch when they play like that.

The stats for the game are misleading. The first period wasn't as lopsided as the shot totals make it look. MSU had the edge in play but the Gophers had a bunch of good chances that didn't result in shots. On the other hand, the game as a whole wasn't as lopsided as the final score would indicate. Leveille played very well in net to keep the Mavericks off the score board while she was in the game. At the end of the day, Minnesota was the better team based on a dominating second period; Maryanne Menefee came inches away from a hat trick on a beautiful passing play. MSU definitely had their chances, though, and it isn't hard to imaginea scenario in which they won.

Now Go Gophers, beat those Beavers!!!

300 point countdown is currently at 86.

Having North Dakota and Bemidji in the WCHA playoffs is by no means a lock for a Minnesota, Wisconsin game for the title. I could easily see an upset or two including UND being good enough to have a shot at the title.

Total goals scored - and allowed - in their four home games vs. Minnesota and Wisconsin: 9 - 9. So yes, you have to say that they do indeed have a good shot at winning the title. And if Bemidji State should pull the upset against Minnesota in their semifinal match-up the odds of the Whioux claiming the championship would, on paper, be even better, as in their two home games they outscored the Beavers by a total of 9-2. There's no denying that having the home ice advantage gives UND an edge. And it's not a stretch to say that if they do win the title it would probably be inaccurate to call it an upset.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

should be some good games

but it makes no sense, if UND or BSU wins it, their reward is a trip to Minneapolis to try again

Saturday *was* a much better game for the Mavs. They have shown glimmers all season of their possible potential - already looking forward to next season :). We've had trouble with scoring all season, and yes, did have chances this game as well. The defense really struggled Friday night, and that just seemed to drag everything down. The Gophers are formidable, but I like it when the Mavs don't kowtow to the "brand image" and just go out there and play hard.

You know that you've got a pretty decent recruiting class when your psyched about next year...when your Minnesota and its the beginning of March.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Someone will must likely take care of this as updates to the scores thread happen pretty regularly but I'll ask the favor anyway. I will be traveling out of town all day Friday but if someone, who is watching the live stream, could give scores updates it would be greatly appreciated.

The Gophers play Saturday and (possibly) Sunday if that helps. On game days, this is always a good resource for getting scores of any game that is in progress:

Thanks, I'm not sure why I missed it in the schedule. :o I will be able to attempt the live stream on Saturday. Your response was a tiny bit more helpful than Eeyore's. :D
