Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

I have a question for y'all.

I seem to have persuaded my wife that a trip to Ridder is warranted if BC advances to the Frozen Four. Will I have any issue buying tickets the week of the games, if Minnesota is there as well?

Minnesota being there would make it more of a challenge but I would think with your connections you should be able to procure them...:)

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

I think in 2013 tickets for the Frozen Four sold out in advance and on the day of the Championship game tickets were actually selling for more than face value by scalpers. Am I remembering that correctly?

I had tickets but for the heck of it I asked one of the scalpers how much they were going for. He said right around $60 each. So I would say "yes" Grant should get them in advance, unless of course BC has to play BU in the quarters.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

USCHO officially has the Gophers picked to finish 2nd to Wisconsin. I could easily pick Wisconsin to finish first myself. They really played with us last year 4 out of 5 games. They just didn't have the scoring power. It think this year they should have much more firepower offensively.

I was very pleased to see Brad Frost quoted that he had Kelly Pannek pencilled as one of the centers to replace Davis/Terry. For some reason that got me feeling even more positive about the new freshmen. Going in to the season, I think the defense will be better than last year. Goaltending should be better, with Leveille having a year more experience and Peters officially on the scene. What does anybody know about the abilities or expectations re: Peters?

Scoring should be just as good as last year also, right? Biggest loss to me will be the relentless defense and back checking of Davis/Terry. But we have so many good returning forwards and 3 promising freshman that we should score I think.

Another possible loss is in leadership. Those 4 seniors last year sure seemed rock solid in the leadership area and really seemed like great kids!!!

Thanks guys -- Schools get an allotment, right? So in theory if BC made it I could get it through them?

I think Davis and Terry had 100+ points between them in 2013-2014. I think they'll need help from several in an attempt to replace that production. That's what Kessel would have really made quite possible. I'm hoping Lorence for one has her best season as a senior.

Agree with the defensive aspect and two way play of Davis and Terry. Terry remains the best I've watched in that respect. Tall order replacing the intensity, consistency and skill those two had for that part of the game.

I think Peters would start on almost any other team in the country. She is rock solid fundementaly and calm in games. Not sure how Frost got both these goalies or how he will mangae playing time to keep them both sharp and engaged (red shirt was the 1st step) but would say Minnesota has no worries on depth between the pipes. Gotta hate a rich get richer story. As for leadership I know a couple that were a bit more in the background that are probably ready to step in. Not sure yet what the achilies heel is for this team but seems like they are a solid number one for much of the season. Dont know if we will see much Friday but will be interesting to see if BUs #1 line can get enough goals to make Saturday tough on the gophers.

As for the frozen 4, we came before warm ups and got walk up tickets last time around. With the light rail you can now stay downtown minneapolis and you dont need to rent a car or cab from the airport or to the rink.

We will probably make the drive, but just in case, are all games at Ridder Arena this weekend being live streamed ? I couldn't find no links .

!

The Badgers without their top 5 Canadians scored 11 last weekend, offence will not be a issue for them this year. their freshman class separates them from the gophers, it's a amazing class.
I have the Badgers beating the Gophers 3of4 in the season and sweep in playoffs..

Nonsense. UM's class is at least as talented. I suppose you could argue one over the other, but to say either one "seperates them from" the other is way overstated.

If Bucky is going to dominate us, September is the best time. :)

Overstating is how some folks roll. I kind of like that Minnesota's freshmen tend to be a little understated.

Nice article about Lee Stecklein in today's St Paul Pioneer Press. A photo of Lee rather than Hillary Knight would have been better though.

I sent the PP writer a note with that same sentiment regarding the photo. ;)

Edit: With a slight tone of indignation per the photo of a former Badger...

...for chrissakes!

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

My wife wanted me to call or write the Pioneer Press and complain about the errant photo, but I think it's a lost cause. They're really clueless.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

so the writer thinks #21 will play wing eh? a few others have said that, I'll be very surprised if she is not one of the centers this year

it appears the prospect of them playing in the NCAA championship game has had an effect on season ticket sales, it looks to me like they've sold more this year than last , it looks like there is only a few available between the blue lines, I assume they will be giving first grab at the Final Four to season ticket holders before the general public is perhaps why.
