One of the joys of sports is that when someone says “Oops”, no one dies or loses their retirement funds. Increasingly, our jobs have no room for errors. No one wants to hear the pilot of the plane they are on say “oops”, or the surgeon just putting you under say “oops”, or your bank say “oops”, or the school that your kids are in say “oops”. And while “oops” adds the opportunity for drama, we are generally most happy in a workmanlike world without drama. To that end, we should value most those people that have the situational awareness that enables them in a split second to evaluate options and discard all those that lead to “oops”.
As ARM infers, Brandt has that situational awareness. You won’t see her trying to skate solo through the opposing team because 90 times out of 100, that ends up with “oops” rather than drama (even for her). When she is on the ice, the people saying “oops” are on the other team. The people getting workmanlike results are on her team. I very much appreciate the lack of drama that goes along with the results her line achieves.
