http://edinamn.gov/index.php?section=braemar-arena-calendar&evtid=14137 Tickets are $7

But I do have to ask, who thought this was a good idea? A game between opponents that will play 4 regular season games, two only a week later, on a Monday night, in a neighborhood arena. There is not a single thing here that would encourage a casual fan or a curious person to turn out. What a wasted opportunity.

I think it all depends on the extent to which the game is promoted locally. Edina is a hotbed of girls hockey, as are other nearby SW suburbs. If property promoted the potential is there to expose the D1 game (and the Gopher women's team) to some new fans who otherwise might not make the trip down to Ridder.

I guess it is officially a Hannah Brandt bandwagon: http://www.usawomenshockey.com/news_article/show/444429?referrer_id=804107 I like Frost's comment "She’s not going to blind you with her speed or anything like that, but at the end of the night she’s going to have two goals and two assists and you’re going to wonder how that happened.”

For those who have watched this player compete at every level throughout her career do not for a minute wonder how she does it. She has always been the best player on the ice…period. The proof is in the details. Leading scorer, assists, +/- ratios…production in all three zones. This is the same reservation some people have with Sidney Crosby. You see the Pens play and wonder what the big deal is…but by the end of the year…the stats and wins leave zero doubt what the deal is. I may be bias but with her on the Olympic team they win gold. She has always found a way to score… hell...WIN!

Reserve me a seat in the wagon anytime :)

Very happy to have HB in Maroon & Gold. *Pretty happy she's moved on from 4AA too.

*Uh...although it hasn't helped much yet.

What's interesting is how much better those two were with Menefee on the line. Marryanne is a good, solid playmaker though I doubt she will get a chance to play for the national team. She makes that line better. Stuff like that makes me realize I could never be successful as a coach because I have no clue why, but seeing the 3 of them together it is obvious.

I'll take a crack at it although I make no bold prediction about it being accurate.

While sometimes the puck seems to be attached to Brandt's stick forever (and probably seems even longer to the opponent) , Menefee is somewhat the opposite, she often takes a shot or pass quickly, sometimes taking a stride or 3 to get in position to do it. While Brandt creates opportunities, Menefee seems to take the best option immediately available. So while the other team is reacting to Brandt handling the puck, when it comes to Menefee whatever is going to happen happens quickly, consequently the other team is often out of position or not in position to defend against her. They go together kinda like apple pie & ice cream, both good, but even better together.BTW, Menefee is a much better defensive player than I suspect most people think, during the perfect season she had a 14:1 goals for/against ratio! unbelievable! every time (only 4 all year, and it took 11 games into the season for somebody to score on her, and another 21 games to score again, BU & BC managed to each get one against her in the semi & final) she was on the ice where the opponents scored, they did not score again until the Gophers scored another 14 goals (and it was even more during the regular season). Last year she was tied for third with McMillen behind Bona & Garzone.

Recruit Taylor Williamson is off to a solid start. In the season opener at Lakeville North, she pretty much carried the scoring with two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win. She followed that up with a 5 goal game at home against Armstrong. That puts her at nine pts including seven goals in 2 games.

Grace Zumwinkle has started strong as well. Line is: 5-8-13 in 3 games played. I haven't looked at opponents but would guess Breck is beating up on some early cupcakes.

Edit: Game 3 was with BSM so the Red Knights must be depleted and rebuilding as expected.

Saw that and almost edited my last post. No word on other notables Robinson or Keller.

This is true. And it didn't help that "Skippin' Keller" transferred to Minnetonka. ;)

Any idea where the live game blog went? Not that useless gametracker, the actual live blog. Can't seem to find it.

I think they use Twitter for in-game updates instead of the blog.

Better video available for the average DIII football game. At least it is available, and thanks for that. It would be a lot better if it were good.

Thats a shame, the blog was fun, interacting with the other fans & much better tempo of the game.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

I thought that rhey looked good tonight. Not great, but good. The aggressive OSU forecheck caused us some problems in the first peruod and we had 23 seconds of horrible penalty killing in the second.

Other than that we did fine. We throttled the Buckeyes in the third. I still think that Ramsey is making a lot of bad plays that she didn't make during the second half of last year, epecially shots right into someobe's skates. On defense this team still has a lot of work to do.

I do think theqy've got a really good chance to put it all together by March.
eh

I was trying to remember the last game where I thought they looked bad. Not just off, like they did against OSU in the tie last year. There were games where they played a bad period. I thought they were bad in their last road loss in Duluth, but that was January of 2012. They've been pretty consistent in showing up to play. Maybe they were bad in the second game at St. Cloud last year, but I wasn't there so can't really say.

We ehrottled

Either it is an inside joke I don't know, or spellcheck is drunk.

Or I was posting from my phone and the thing was giving me trouble when I tried to backspace. I'm pretty sure that what ended up posted didn't resemble what was on my screen, but it was such a mess that I can't be sure.

Edit: Actually, what I see from my post is more coherent than you quoted. I think I actually hit Post halfway through and then was trying to edit and you responded before I posted the edits.

How kids these days can manage to communicate with each other on these ****ed phones eludes me.

Sympathize with that. For some, the answer is that every electronic message needs to be a tweet. But that "solution" creates a new problem. Now when you send an e-mail with any level of detail, people get confused/mad. A message that functions just fine on a computer screen may very well seem too long on the much smaller phone screen.

Very poor video. At least give the camera person a slightly elevated platform so the shot isn't frequently blocked by fans passing by. Cowboy hat guy liked to take his sweet time moving past the camera. :(

Good to see #'s 6, 7 and 20 in the box score.

Per the points regarding the game blog...IMO, gone downhill with the switch to Twitter. I don't even bother anymore but it used to be fun under the original format. I'm a dinosaur...who doesn't tweet.
