2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

I love the way Coach Frost summed things up in Candace Horgan's recap of the game:

“I don’t know how you explain what’s going on,” said Frost. “To have these two and Meghan Lorence and Shyler Sletta play four national championship games in a row in their career, and then to come away with three of them, I just think it speaks volumes to our team and our program and our players. We are so blessed and so fortunate. I feel incredibly blessed to coach at the University of Minnesota, let alone to coach such great people and players as these guys are.”

An incredible game! I was really surprised that Harvard was able to put up the threat it did given what I saw on Friday. Instead of the passive, laid-back D I saw against BC, today they were aggressive & relentless. Even the PK, which looked like it would get eaten by MN was much more forceful and did not allow the chances I expected. Harvard should be very proud of a great effort. I know nobody plays to finish second but there is no shame in this case. They gave MN everything they could handle.

As for the gratitude for fans I talked to many players tonight & they all mentioned how grateful they are for the support they get & I told them how much we appreciate what they do.

Indeed you did! The view of that particular goal is much better from your side of the rink. Also, the fact you were embedded in the crowd makes your audio more appealing than the relatively sterile NCAA version. Well done, and many thanks for sharing that.

You are very welcome -- it was very lucky, I didn't even trim that; it is right where I happened to start recording haha

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

I understand that there is a future "Other Former WCHA Player" who is proud of the fact she handed MN a couple of losses this year. I sort of want to ask to see her championship rings!

in the interest of accuracy, I believe this player has a ring, and probably should be proud of her team's accomplishments
in fact, it is opponents like that who prepare you for winning championships

Hats off to the Gophers.

We saw Winny Brodt Brown at the game with her sister. They have to be proud as Gophers but also coaches who really helped develop all those MN players on both Teams through - Summer Camps, Prospects, Elite League....

There were more than a few Gopher fans commenting and rooting for Hannah Brandt for the snub that Coach Stone paid last year on cutting her from the Olympic Team. Glad to see Hannah get the game winner and be named Outstanding Tournament Player for the weekend.

Amazed me how Harvard played two lines the whole second half of the game until MN went up 3-1. Harvard put up great effort but made no sense to keep rolling the same two lines when they were gassed?

Impressive performance by the Gophers. They controlled the game for the most part and had it not been for Maschmeyer early on, it could have been a blow out. Harvard never gave up and did make it interesting in the 3rd period. Good game.

How's that insistence that the winner of the WCHA tournament always goes on to win the national championship working out for you?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

Another NCAA women's hockey gold medalist from the WCHA.......what's that add up to -- 99 out of the last 100??

Time for the powers that be to wake up and realize that the final 8 should be comprised of 4 teams from the WCHA playing off against 4 teams from the east. And if it ends up with 4 Western teams in the semi finals then so be it, at least the best teams are there
.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

That was a great game. At this point, I don't really have any specific comments about how it went, just that it was awesome. Congratulations to the players, and to the seniors for breaking such an ancient record for the most wins by a class in the program's history.

not likely the ECAC & Hockey Easy will go along with that

the men's tourney is full of former WCHA teams, the commitee that picks and sets the brackets may not think so, but you cannot fool the athletes

and just look at this years freshmen women, and the incoming class, they seem to know which conference is likely to make them "be all they can be"

How's that insistence that the winner of the WCHA tournament always goes on to win the national championship working out for you?
That’s the best you can do?
I said over a year ago the best predictor of the national champion was the winner of the WCHA tourney, and that it had only once failed to predict the winner. It’s still the best predictor, just not as good as it used to be.

but I am surprised your old noggin' can remember that long ago
