2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

Nice analysis KTDC, too bad the simpleton at the newspaper couldn’t have done it.
At least he was sympathetic to the cause of getting more women's hockey on TV. Toward the end of his article he even mentions, somewhat sarcastically, that the championships for women's bowling and fencing will be televised next month. I think if he could have added one of these  he would have.

Let's Go Gophers!

May you be possessed by the power of John Mayasich!

Already randomly ran into Nowheresville at Stub & Herbs. Unfortunately this happens to be the Badgers bar...

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back II

I'll confess that even I'm worried about our second line at this point. Pannek had a goal today but it was while playing with Brandt and Menefee on the power play. As a group I only noticed one solid chance today, when Bona forced Desbiens to make a nice kick save late in the second period. Other than that I thought they were disappointing. Lorence had a stretch a few weeks ago where she was really impressive but has kind of vanished again. She took a dumb penalty, but at least she was on the ice for it this week.

Other than Schipper's goal last week, the third line has gone stone cold, though Schipper had one today that bounced off of almost everything and then stopped a couple inches short of the goal line. So the Brandt/Cameranesi/Menefee line may need to carry us for one more game. Win on Sunday and they have six months to try to figure out the chemistry before it matters again. Lose and they have the same six months, but it won't be as fun.

Garzone had another play where I'm thinking, "Look at the hands on her!"

There's a precedent for UM's top line coming through in an NCAA final against Harvard. Just saying. And if that doesn't work, there are always the D. I'm thinking there may be a PP opportunity or two, based on what I've seen from the Crimson this season.

Win on Sunday and they have six months to try to figure out the chemistry before it matters again. Lose and they have the same six months, but it won't be as fun.
Well, Pannek gets new wings either way. I think we'll have some good options next year.

First off, I don't like your team. This little exchange sums it up nicely:

Newman: You are nothing but a piece of crap.
Ron: Pardon me?
Kramer: [In Newman's ear] A piece of crap...
Newman: A piece of crap.
Kramer: [In Newman's ear] I find you extremely ugly...
Newman: I find you extremely ugly.
Ron: *Do* you?
Kramer: [In Newman's ear] You emit a foul and unpleasant odour...
Newman: You emit a foul and unpleasant odour.
Ron: Oh, is that right?
Kramer: [In Newman's ear] I *loathe* you...
Newman: I *loathe* you.

Now that that is out of the way....I very much dislike Katey Stone for botching the US Olympic team with her eastern bias, please kick the shiit out of Hawvawd and bring the glory back west where it belongs. Back to lamenting, have a swell day today and tomorrow.

Thats sad, and not just the sludge from a lame sitcom, its sad because I love your team & think it is the second best in the nation that deserves better than to have to go home with no hardware. I hated when we lost to them regularly but knew it was a loss to a very very good team after a great game. The wheel will spin and some time in the distant future the skate may be on the other foot again and I will still rather watch a MN/WI game than any other.

I think it was Terry's SO year that she was stone cold too (I may be mis-remembering & I am sure you will clear that up) so there is always the possibility that a new year will bring big surprises. I was more worried about Panneks inability to win a faceoff against Pankowski, something that could happen with frightening regularity over the next few years if it continues. But, yup, they have to figure out how to get more scoring out of 2 & 3 lines. I'd also point out that it was Bona tht missed both tries at the empty net, a pipe & a clear miss, tht has to be annoying for her ;)

Its so nice living in the 2010s. No waiting to figure out what will cause the VCR timer to not work correctly...this time.

Happy to see Leveille take a step out of the large shadow cast by the great Raty. She has never gotten credit for her accomplishments because of the quality of the D she plays behind (and last year's championship game was shaky) but it was fun to see her come up big in an important game. The Gophers will need another big game from her tomorrow.

Former Gophers that I saw in the building yesterday: Gigi Marvin, Bethany Brausen, Brittany Francis, Michelle Maunu. I suspect there were more but those are the ones I saw. Katie Frischmann was there last week for sure but I didn't see her today.

Frischmann was there. So were Sarah Erickson, Kelly Seeler, Becky Kortum, Ashley Stenerson, and Noora Räty.

She renounced her Gopher status, so I don't claim her as a former Gopher. If one leaves like Liz Palkie but never dons another sweater and competes versus the "M" that is different, but Potter can go sit with the Lams in the "Other Former WCHA Players" section.

Hear, hear! I thought I was the only one who held a grudge :) Although I credit the twins with winning 2 national titles for MN as their leaving made it possible.

I understand that there is a future "Other Former WCHA Player" who is proud of the fact she handed MN a couple of losses this year. I sort of want to ask to see her championship rings!
