Re: 2014-2015 Division I Scores & Results Thread

No excuse for what took place tonight. None whatsoever. I don't normally got po'd at the Gophers but tonight is the exception.

Re: 2014-2015 Division I Scores & Results Thread

I didn't think Minnesota was horrible. They weren't good, by any stretch of the imagination, but they weren't horrible. I think "lethargic" is a better description.

They dominated the shot totals and Bemidji didn't have a whole lot of good chances. When things went sideways, though, they did so convincingly Peters got no help at all on the first Beaver goal.

The passing was off all night, sometimes just missing and sometimes players reading the play differently. Still, they came really close to scoring a bunch of times, including tge puck sliding just wide twice in overtime.

If that's the worst game we play all year, we'll be alright.

Are any Gophers away @ 4 Nations?

I'd say at least half the team

at least Ramsey has an excuse, although she returned, it was obviously affecting her at the start of the 2nd although she looked better as the game went on
most were over thinking or something, they made a lot of bad decisions trying to make something out of nothing
even so, they very nearly won the game
although the shots do not show it, Bemidji played smarter, out hustled, and outplayed them, so I guess justice was served that they got the bonus WCHA point
BUT, I still don't understand why the players and fans were so giddy, they blew a one goal lead with 2 minutes to play

Anyone in HE and ECAC country have access to the Wisconsin @ NoDak broadcast tonight? Maybe a look at UW...both could assist in your rankings next week.

Yeah, I dvr'd the game...supposed to rain tomorrow. Had a good time watch on' the St. Cloud beat down of the Gopher men though.

Re: 2014-2015 Division I Scores & Results Thread

Peters got no help at all on the first Beaver goal.
She didn't on the second one either. No Gopher defender picked up the trailing Lauren Miller on the BSU rush.

I was very glad to see Ramsey return to action, but she seemed to be struggling on a couple of occasions.

Despite the shot differential, the Gophers had some poor puck luck... a lot of bounces over sticks, a couple of whiffs on shot attempts, just general ugliness. And having a third-period goal waved off shortly before the Beavers' second goal wasn't good; it was a loooong review, and my guess is that they decided there was a Gopher in the crease because the faceoff came at center.

I'd be giddy taking 2 standing points on the road from an opponent in which most predictions gave us no chance. Yes, I'd be happier if it had been three points, but it's infinitely better than 0.

Re: 2014-2015 Division I Scores & Results Thread

Who? Box score seemed to show the Gophers with most of their regular line-up.

I believe poker was just being facetious. It just SEEMED like the Gophers were missing half their roster, at least for much of the game. But they weren't - everyone was there. However tomorrow they WILL be missing three very key players. This will present the Beavers with a great chance to come away with five points on the weekend. The Gophers have their work cut out for them, that's for sure.

Clearly, I missed the sarcasm. Even with 3 players gone, I find it hard to believe that the Gophers are giving up any additional points at home against Bemidji. I'll say it one last time, I hate what Four Nations does to the college rosters. Why can't this be played during the holiday break when every team gets at least 3 week off?

Spot on, CD. Some games the puck just refuses to go in. But overall the usual Gopher intensity just wasn't there, and they were fortunate to get a penalty call in their favor at the end. To their credit, they really picked up the pace at the end when the game was on the line, and were able to (finally!) break through a very stout Beaver defense and some great goaltending. Will need a full 60 minute effort tomorrow afternoon, especially with the shortened bench.

Couldn't agree more, Badger Booster. If they can't find a way to avoid making current college players missing games, either by scheduling these tournaments during the Holiday break or before or after the college season, they should play the games without any college players on their rosters.

It's not ideal to have players gone for 4 Nations or that Meco Cup or MLP Cup or whatever it is these days. But it is nowhere near as bad as 2004 when two teams had players miss the Frozen Four so Canada could have them train for Worlds. That was garbage.

ARM, just my opinion, but I really think it goes beyond that. Realistically, even for most true hockey fans both here in North America and overseas, whichever country wins the 4 Nations or Meco Cup (or whatever other cup or title, other than the Olympics) is not that big of deal (try to find anything about it in most major newspapers!).

But, if current college players were to be excluded from these mid-season tournaments, it would give others an opportunity to showcase their talents, while at the same time give countries (other than the U.S and Canada) more opportunity and a better path to compete on the world stage. Meanwhile, women's college hockey here in the U.S. could continue without interruption of their seasons on a more equal footing for all concerned.

So I ask: What are the downsides if this approach were to be adopted?

Re: 2014-2015 Division I Scores & Results Thread

The problem is with the US and Canada organizations. The three UMD players (2 Swedes and 1 Finn) will not be missing any time with UMD even though they are playing a Saturday/Sunday series this weekend. I don't think it would make much of a difference if the US and Canada allowed their collegiate players one extra day to finish their weekend college team commitments before leaving for the 4 Nations Cup.

YES! They have team commitments. These are real teams playing real seasons.

They claimed goalie interference despite the fact that it was a BSU player that shoved the gopher into Mowatt & it didn't actually affect the chance. I had an excellent view from overhead, it was a horrible call

As for puck luck, I counted 3 flat out misses with an open net and twice that many decent potential chances that hopped sticks or were misfired. It was a weird night. But the Beavers played better than the Gophers did, no arguing that.

Right, because it's so confusing why a team would be happy with a tie against a #1 team. Man, that's so confusing.

Re: 2014-2015 Division I Scores & Results Thread

Actually it is confusing given they gave up the lead. Wow, we tied yippee.

Except for in the WCHA, that extra one point SO win could be the difference between hosting or traveling in the first round of conference playoffs... So, yes, their excitement is justified. And Bemidji State which has consistently been in the WCHA cellar is certainly deserving of a big win like this and the possibility of hosting in the first round.
