2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

I am still firm in my belief that a four-team playoff would suffice.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Listening to the post game interviews.

Any comment of Winston 's comment that the game could have gone either way? More that they gave the game to Oregon rather than getting beat by them. While the game was close without the turnovers, Oregon still held a strong advantage.

And some of the sugar bowl comments were how badly uat played vs getting beat by tOSU. Once osu got their composure back from the turnovers, their more dominant play ruled the game. tOSU was better.

Still, with 5 sec west teams getting beat, some pretty soundly, talking heads still proclaim the sec the best. When the B1G has that record, it illustrates how bad they are. Not so for the sec apparently.

No matter how many teams are in a the playoff there will always be complaints from the next two teams in line. At least.

No doubt. I'm not worried about the gripes of the teams that don't make the cut - especially by the time you get to teams #15 & 16.

The reason I'd like 16 is for all of the what I would consider to be must watch games.

I likely don't bother with those two games yesterday if they're not playoff games. I stopped watching many of the bowls once the BCS Championship Game started.

Even this year, as much as an argument that TCU would have, the Big12 is their own wort enemy here. It would be hard to pick one and not the other, given that they played the same conference schedule, somewhat similar OOC schedules (when the difference is Minnesota we're not exactly talking about one playing the Patriots while the other plays Lady of the Peace), and a close head-to-head matchup. If one gets in, the other will cry bloody murder, so easier to pick a one-loss Big5 champion who streamrolled their conference championship opponent. If the Big12 wants their teams to have a better chance, they need to get their act together.

You need to have conference chp auto bids. Sorry.

The conferences all want these, so they have to come with consequences (and the bball variety awards bids to the Conf tourney winner as well). You hold them, deal with it.

So I see six spots going to big10 & 12, ACC sec pac12 and mwc. I'll allow two WC teams so let's have 8.
If we want to add two more than the 4 wc teams can have a play in game.

Top four seed get home games like nfl (bowls are done. Look at the crowd watching Houston and Pitt). Visiting team is allocated 40% of the tickets to buy. If you don't use them they are returned to the home school.

Final four we can rotate between NO, Rose Bowl, and Miami (sorry Atlanta, but as a city you ain't making the cut).

That's all just for the 12-15 years it will take for the top 30 power programs to separate completely from the NC$$ and become a single, integrated NFL-esque entity.

You put an 8 or 16 team tournament in then the Bowl system is finished and a lot of money goes down the drain.

Do you believe that the bowl system is sustainable?

Well, let me see. Gopher Football team would not have been in a game if there were a 16 team tournament and no Bowl games. We sold 8000 tickets and it's the most fun I've had watching football on New Years Day.

So, yes, I do.

But if you go over 3 teams where the arguing stops, then no a Bowl game for the Gophers and everyone else that doesn't play in their playoff system will be over.

Maybe they could have an NIT for the lesser programs. ;)

I wasn't asking if you as a Gopher fan enjoyed being in a bowl this year. Do you think that the public's interest will continue for years to come as bowls in general seem to decline in importance?

Time has come and gone.

Slavery sent a lot of money down the drain too, but that flush was needed as well.
Again, turn on Pitt Houston. A time that has come and gone....

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

I enjoyed the heck out of yesterday's Badger game for various Badger-centric story lines. In a day, I'll be over it.

I'd rather be striving each year to make a top 16 than go to a bowl every season that may or may not be interesting.

They could still have the Who-Gives-A-****-Except-For-The-Teams-Involved Bowl(s) for teams that don't make the top 16.

Agreed....except for the uncalled for snide Gopher remark. ;)
I would bet the B12 won't get its act together until Texa$ gets screwed then watch the changes happen fast.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

And apparently you haven't read anything I've written associated with that.

Oh, yes I have. TCU is the poster child AGAINST the (4) team tournament, not for it. No system on earth gets TCU into the Final Four given how things shook out.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Pittsburgh blows a 31-6 4th qtr lead to Houston. Crazy come back!

Iowa looks horrible as usual.
