2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Thanks for the information and pleasant response. I figured as much but wanted to ask. I'll find a room, there are always rooms.
Thanks again.
For future reference: the general hotel industry policy is to allow booking 50 weeks in advance. I used this knowledge for the F4 in Mpls and F5 this year. I highly recommend you look at the refund/cancellation policies of the individual hotel, and book accordingly. ;)

Wait unti you have the B1G, WCHA and NCHC all competing with the Women's NCAAs and MN State High School Hockey Tourney. Maybe not competing on the same weekend or even the same city...but other business travellers will be changing their bookings to fill rooms whenever, whereever they can.

How do you figure they will all be competing with each other?

A. The B1G, WCHA and NCHC will all have their tournaments on the same weekend...but in difference cities. How will their hotel arrangements conflict with each other in any way? Business travelers go to St. Paul? Why?
B. The NCHC tournament is in Minneapolis, which not only has way more hotel rooms than St. Paul, it also makes it possible for people to take a $40-$60 cab ride home. I would guess most fans of NCHC schools that are Twin Cities residents are on the Minneapolis side of the river.

A. The schools who have a lot of fans at the F5 (UND/MN) have no chance of losing first round.
B. Most hotels make you pay beforehand and it is non-refundable.

I'd call and see if they get any cancelations after the first round. Have to believe that they always have some after teams are eliminated.
Like Brent, I almost always get my room reserved 10-11 months in advance. However, I can think of at least 3 occasions where I have, on Thursday, called and gotten rooms. There are always cancellations by someone. Ask to be on their waiting list.

Also, the Crowne Plaza Riverfront (or whatever they call it now) is always a good choice later in the weekend. It's not because of the location of the fans, but the teams. There are always at least 3 teams staying there, and someone is going home. That frees up a bunch of rooms.

I see that the afternoon games are at 2 pm. Maybe it is just me but I recall those games being at 3... Is this a change for this year?

No, I think they have always been at 2. Maybe you thought they started at 3 because that UMD Denver game last year didn't end until like 6.

Well that might be true but I thought with the timing of work it was at 3. One year I couldn't make the play in game so I had to watch it on my computer after work had ended at 3. Hmm

Thanks, and this is noted for the future.

It's about $45 one way from Ridgedale (Minnetonka) to the X. I may have first hand knowledge of this, hence the hotel this year. ;)

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

So the first round is set:
1) SCSU vs 12) UAA
2) MIN vs 11) BSU
3) UND vs 10) MTU
4) WIS vs 9) UMD
5) DU vs 8) CC
6) MSU vs 7) UNO

It's exciting to see we'll have only one Colorado School at the Final Five and we're guaranteed to have a Maverick for the first time since the WCHA expanded to 12 teams. Very good chance of having almost the optimal Final Five from a fan perspective. We'll see how it shakes out next week. As I saw Almington post in another thread. Other than 1 vs 12 and 2 vs 11, I could see any of the other teams end up in St Paul depending on which team shows up and lucky bounces here or there.

TUSCHWI, keep looking. I booked a hotel near campus, because I'm also visiting my niece, but I don't think it's accurate to say that "most" hotels require advance payment and don't refund for cancellations. In fact, during the time when I spent a lot of time in hotels, I very rarely paid in advance, and I would never ever stay in a hotel that didn't allow me to cancel. That would be a terrible policy, especially during a time when they know that they will be full regardless of cancellations.

We were so close to having the chance of an all-MN F5......so close! That would have been amazing. That being said, since I can't have my UND-MN title game (I don't think), then I want Tech, SCSU, MN, MSU, tUMD, and DU.

Oh, I know it's not going to happen. A man can dream, though, right? :p
