Mike Shanahan also gone.

Lions have a team meeting scheduled for noon today.

Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

This is it exactly, you start focusing more on players instead of teams. You start hoping your own team does not do as good because you don't have them on your fantasy team, and hoping players from teams you despise do well because you do have them. Teams are lost and it is all about your "players". Like Gurt brought up the fact there is a whole industry that popped up because of fantasy sports just really puts it over the edge. Like I said and I stick by it, fantasy sports need to die in a fire.

And the one part that used to be a skill has now been replaced by auto draft, advice sites and things like call in shows to ask who whould start...at that point what the heck is the skill??? Just which loser has enough time to go through all of that and get their roster in on time? At its inception it was a test of who really knew the players and could anticipate the performances...now you can have a computer tell you who to draft and who to play. Why have humans involved at all...my ipad can play your laptop in FF and the winner gets a virtual trophy.

And that doesn't consider the guy with 3 fantasy teams...what skill is involved there, aside from the semi-regular "aw man, I screwed up and played the wrong guy on my second fantasy team" lament.

And we used to make fun of D&D players...at least they rolled the 13 sided dice while wearing a cape.

If you auto-draft, chances are you will not be happy with your team. You can follow all the numbers and stats in the world, but the "human touch" is what makes a great FFL team.

Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

Actually, fantasy football has saved my love of the game. My team is usually out of it by December, so I feel some sort of need to have something at stake. I can appreciate big time performances from other teams. Fantasy football does it for me. If I didn't like football, I'd probably labeled a Communist an un-American. Besides, it lets me keep the idea alive that I know what I'm doing more than empty front office suits.

I wouldn't go that far - it's just not for me.

I like the D&D reference though as that's essentially what it is. When I hear guys at work talking about "If I had only started my other QB" or other assorted laments I think - NERDS, NERDS, NERDS!!!

"Nah man, it's cool coz it's sports."

Sorry, not really.

Litmus test?

Would you tell a hottie that you just met about your 3 teams and back to back championships?

Sure you would. :D

Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

So because Gurt started focusing more on his FFL players rather than his real life team, it's FFLs fault?

Faulty reasoning there.

Gurt was an example of exactly what I have seen all too much. More and more people that I see are becoming this way.

Why is that a problem for you? Why would you even care if that's how others enjoy the game by focusing on that aspect of it while you focus on something else? Get over yourself. Your way isn't necessarily the right way. I don't like fantasy sports myself, but that doesn't mean I'm going to get on my coworkers who talk about it arounnd me. In fact, after they're done talking about it, do you know what I do? I let it go and live my life.

Oops! NFL has found that SD was in an illegal formation on the missed KC field goal at the end of regulation.

FYP. :)

Next season, we should have a thread dedicated to those who just want to talk about the games, and those who want to talk about FFL.

Yep.

You hit it right on the head. The NFL is grateful for the innovation of fantasy sports. It's probably gotten guys who don't normally watch into the sport and kept people who's teams are out of it watching late into the season. The NFL doesn't give a darn why you watch as long as you do.

And Jericho, I was trying to show a little more optimism. :D

Remember back in the day, when you got a score update (with no details) on games around the league every 15 minutes or so during a broadcast game? Other than that, you had no clue what was going on around the league?

Thank FFL for the constant updates on other games, with stats and such. FFL completely changed the way the networks cover the league. The scrolling ticker, top players (real stats) of the day, etc etc etc. If you love the sport as a whole, thank FFL. ;)

I'd be fine with separate threads next year.

Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

you don't like mookie as yer source?!?! :p

Given that the speculation and conflicting reports were everywhere around Minnesota media yesterday...it would have helped. ;)

3 coaches down, prob one more to go. And I wouldn't be surprised if there is some random HC fired that no one expected (DAL, maybe?).

Maybe so, but I don't need to know that Buffalo's second running back has 3 carries for 7 yards - which is what those tickers have evolved to.

Trust me, no one that isn't playing fantasy football cares about individual stats of players. The game score and who has the ball is sufficient.

As a side though, Fox used to have a little notification sound that would sound when the update ticker was happening and I was trained like Pavlov's dog to stop whatever I was doing to see who had scored. Within the past year, I remember hearing it again and had a chuckle as I was about to drop what I was doing and check it out.

Like you said, there was no way of knowing what was going on as the internet didn't exist. The ticker was your lifeline.

Oh man, at the local watering hole (which has 6-8 tvs), when that sound was heard, you saw half the people perk up like prairie dogs looking frantically at which tv made that sound!

So true! Hilarious.

They're especially grateful because the previous "innovation" that maintained interest in "out of it" teams late into the season -- namely gambling -- was something they had to distance themselves from. Fantasy football they can embrace, even find ways to make more $$$ off.
