They're especially grateful because the previous "innovation" that maintained interest in "out of it" teams late into the season -- namely gambling -- was something they had to distance themselves from. Fantasy football they can embrace, even find ways to make more $$$ off.

While totally ignoring the fact that, it too, is a form of gambling.

It's legally ruled a game of skill in MN. Dunno about other states. Granted, still gambling, but it's all legal-like for image purposes/etc.

Lions fans will be happy that ESPN is reporting that Jim Schwartz has been fired

Don't let the door hit him in the ***** on the way out. Good riddance.
Schiano could have a soft landing. There were rumors that Penn State was assuming that they'd lose O'Brien to the NFL and had already contacted Schiano.

5 down. Who's next?

I say DAL, but NYG would be a good dark horse guess.

Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

Jerry Jones has confirmed he's hanging on to Garrett.

They'll probably let Coughlin resign on good terms.

Do you trust Jerruh Jones? I sure don't. ;)

I could see that with Coughlin.

If Lovie Smith doesn't get a few phone calls this week....something's fishy in the state of Denmark.

seems like he'd be a good fit for a team with talent on offense that just needs structure and a revamped defense

washington? detroit?

The one thing about the Giants is they aren't reactionary like the fan base in NY. They'll give Coughlin another year or two as they have in the past. He's usually rewarded their patience with a deep playoff run or a Super Bowl Coughlin should stay if you ask me.

I don't really think Coughlin is the problem. Granted, the buck stops with the head coach, but I think that both coordinators need to take good, long looks in the mirror. Kevin Killdrive wore out his welcome a long time ago as far as I'm concerned, and Perry Fewell, while was ok taking over a defense from Spagnuolo, did not show any improvement. There's never any good reason to NOT blitz a linebacker when said linebacker is not in pass coverage. That's defense 101, all available guys should be rushing the QB. Granted, I'll give him the injsury excuse, as they did lose some talent in their already non-existent defensive backfield and linebacking corps, but the guys that are there as backups should be ready at all times, and I just didn't see that this year on either side of the ball. The loss of Chase Blackburn to the Panthers hurt more than I think most fans are aware. Let's not even talk about Special Teams.

This is what I would do if I were in charge of the NYG: Use my available draft picks for: OL, LB, DB, TE. Through free agency I'd try to acquire a WR (to guard against the potential of losing Nicks,) a better backup QB than either Painter or Nassib, and a DL.

O'Brien might be leaving --- or might not be.

Monday: Tampa Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano is fired, freeing Schiano for Penn State if O'Brien were to leave and if Schiano were to be interested in the job.

Sunday Afternoon: Team sources tell StateCollege.com that the team --aside from individual conversations with O'Brien-- is in large part finding out news as the public does. Not a surprising development, nor indicative of O'Brien's plans, but a noteworthy confirmation.

Sunday Morning: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Penn State is preparing to lose Bill O’Brien and that athletic director Dave Joyner is ready to travel to pursue Buccaneers' head coach Greg Schiano. The site also reports that O'Brien has told assistant coaches to prepare for transition to the NFL.

That's what I like about the Mara and Rooney families. They have some idea of what's going on, but are smart enough to leave it to their football guys. They aren't meddlesome like a Snyder or Jerry, but aren't distant like a Ralph Wilson. That's why they continue to contend for Super Bowls more often than not.

apparently penn state recruits have been calling local radio in happy valley saying o'brien has told them he will be staying. now, i know this doesn't mean anything. and i have no problem with o'brien looking at the NFL, but if in fact he's currently telling recruits he will be back at penn state and then bolts for the NFL this week...that ain't right.

Oh man, at the local watering hole (which has 6-8 tvs), when that sound was heard, you saw half the people perk up like prairie dogs looking frantically at which tv made that sound!
Which, if you think about it, is stupid because only one game has the sound on...:p

Kate Mara is what I like about the Mara and Rooney families. :D

It makes sense though. If he's not sure of his decision yet, he'll tell his recruits whatever will keep them coming to Penn State should he decide to stay.
