2013 NCAA Semifinal: Boston College vs. Minnesota

Re: 2013 NCAA Semifinal: Boston College vs. Minnesota

What an end to a great game. Congrats to the Gophers. Their streak is something for the ages. Tough for BC - Boyles played great. It is a crime that this game wasn't televised nationally.

Re: 2013 NCAA Semifinal: Boston College vs. Minnesota

Congratulations to BC for rising to the occasion. Where was this team vs NU in the Beanpot?

Entertaining game and closer than I expected it to be.

Beautiful smarts and patience by Davis for the winner.

Re: 2013 NCAA Semifinal: Boston College vs. Minnesota

P.S....It does beg the question.....Why was Brown in the Bean Pot in 1993 ???

Short version is that BU didn't become varsity until 2005-06. While they had played before as a club team, they only had 3 non consolation wins up until '93 (2 coming in a Beanpot title), and the games at that time were mostly beatdowns at the hands of Harvard and NU.

Congrats Gopher Ladies! Anything to the rumor that the Big Ten Network is considering broadcasting the championship game?

Re: 2013 NCAA Semifinal: Boston College vs. Minnesota

I was glad to see the overtime goal scored by the third line. In his preview, TTT said that he thought that a matchup of the third lines would work in BC's favor. I didn't have an opportunity to reply to that, to the effect that I disagreed, but the Davis/Brausen/Lorence line was the best for either team over the course of the game. It was only fitting that all three of them got points on the game winner, because they had earned it.

Also, talking with DC78-82; Crazy Dave; and Hux between the third period and the overtime, we sort of disagreed as to whether BC had had many chances in the third period outside of their power play and the one they converted. Maybe it's just that having Noora back there has redefined what I consider to be a serious scoring chance against the Gophers, but I really didn't think BC had much outside of those two instances. After a slight BC advantage in the run of play in the first period I thought the Gophers were the better team the rest of the way. But, as I said, that may say as much about how I feel with Noora in the net as anything else.

Re: 2013 NCAA Semifinal: Boston College vs. Minnesota

I think what your saying about Raty is spot on. I looked at the shot count after the game and was surprised BC had 10 more shots than Minnesota and I think that goes to show that Raty can make things look rather routine for the most part.

I also think that the unbeaten streak, as the Gophers are getting closer to the national title, is weighing a little more heavily on them than they care to admit. They are getting pushed to the limit as teams are bringing their best to try and be the one to knock them off.

One other thought. Kessel just doesn't seem herself and I'm not sure if it's because of health or what the other teams are doing to neutralize her or if she is just plain in a bit of a funk right now.

That was Joe.

Also, that was an incredibly enjoyable game until MN's third line shattered my heart into pieces in OT :(

I'm going to need some time to recover from this one. Ugh. What a heartbreaking loss.

I agree that Noora can make things look routine at times, but Minnesota outshot BC 39-28.

Agreed. Although you have to give them credit, they don't hold anything back. If they are going to lose, it will be because they play their style and somehow, some way their opponent manages to capitalize on one more mistake that enables them to win the game.

I only saw the third period and OT but from what I could tell, UM's D was mobile, quick and transitioned to offense faster than BC. I thought BC's D was so concerned about UM's forwards that they stayed back rather than jumping into the play for fear of giving up a breakaway or odd man rush. And yet Minnesota still found ways to create odd-man rushes. The questions I have are as follows: is there another team capable of taking it to Minnesota for 60 minutes (or more if necessary)? Was UND that team or was that one game an anomaly? Will Minnesota have to beat themselves for another team to win?

Including 19-9 in the 3rd period and the OT.

Shall we take up a collection to buy the BC team a bus ticket to North Dakota for a strictly unofficial barnstorming game between two incredibly hot teams? Guess the NCAA wouldn't spring for the cost of adding it as an undercard in an East-West doubleheader?

I would be all for this. Winner is awarded 2nd place. Eff BU.

Although if BC would have hung around for a couple more days, I'd have paid to watch BC vs BU on Monday. It is odd that the possible fourth game in that series never happened.

Before you know it TTT another season will begin...It was a great effort and BC has much to be proud of

Hence why I said surprised so I must have misread the gametracker stats right after the game. I remember them as 38 and 28 but obviously mixed up who they were attributed to.
