2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I didn't want to get my hopes up after the hot start. But when they held onto 1st through June, I started wondering if they could do it. Then July, and even with the hiccups, they still held 1st.

The swoon in August killed me. Watching the L's add up broke my heart.

Got free tickets to tomorrows game, was hoping to see winning baseball... Now I just hope the Cubs don't embarass the Brewers. :(

Well their fans will embarrass themselves per usual.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Can't say I've ever seen a team decline a balk before.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I think Roenicke is gone. I really like him, and I love his style of play, but they need to blame someone and Attanasio is ****ed.

IMO, they don't need to do too much with the pitching staff. I think Fiers has cemented a spot in the rotation, and I feel like the bullpen would be fine, if they get Duke and K-Rod back, and Henderson and Thornburg return from injury. At this point, if they can get anything for Gallardo, they should make a deal.

They can let Reynolds and Overbay go. Reynolds did exactly what we expected. Lyle was pretty good off the bench, but they need some consistent offensive pop at first. I'd like to see Ramirez back, though. Weeks is gone, which makes me a little sad, but hopefully he goes somewhere where he can get more playing time. I assume Braun, Gomez and Davis will return to form after recovering from their injuries.

Melvin is gonna take it out on someone. You cant get rid of Gomez. Braun is untradeable right now. Lucroy is staying. Ramirez is back. Segura should be safe. Scooter is the second baseman. You knew both firstbasemen were gone. That leaves Davis and his wet noodle out in left. I think his benching down the stretch is writing on the wall. I dont see him back.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I JP Breen post that the Brewers should trade Gallardo for Lawrie straight up and move Ramirez to 1B.

Ramirez didn't sound like he was certain that he was coming back, although no one would turn down that kind of money. K-Rod sounds like he expects to be gone, though he said he wants to stay and really likes it here. I wouldn't mind bringing Lyle back as a backup/PH at 1B, but we definitely need to do something there. My brother mentioned to me that he heard something about them considering moving Braun to first now that we have Parra. Intriguing.

Not horrible. Did we ever hear a solid reason why Khris Davis can't play first? KD to first, and Parra starting in the OF makes so much sense in theory. Teams really took advantage of Davis in the outfield, and I think Parra contributes enough to start.

Then the mediocre/subpar rotation gets even worse. (assuming you mean Brett Lawrie)

Also I highly doubt we do that given he was already in the Brewers' system and considered expendable due to his off field issues (at least that's likely what it was).

We're not going to get someone "clean" in exchange for Gallardo.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I get that, I just highly doubt Melvin would even consider him. Also he really hasn't been all that impressive since 2011 in the few starts he got.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I think Melvin is more to blame than Roenicke in that his style of team is feast or famine with power, and the disaster at first base (again). Part of me would like to see a change in manager, maybe a new voice to the players, but part of me thinks it could backfire like when Valentine replaced Francona in Bahstin. I think in the end they need to stand pat.

After reading the article on Braun's injury, I ended up thinking that maybe they should have just benched him. I'm not sure what their options would have been, but he sure was a train wreck with that injury.

I'm not sure Yo is worth the 11 million. If you ditched his and Weeks big $$$, that sure could buy a pretty good 1st baseman, though I have no idea who is available.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Roenicke will return. Johnny Narron and Garth Iorg will not. I am glad to hear it, as I enjoy Roenicke's style of play.

I think keeping Roenicke is a good idea, regardless of the swoon.

I missed this last week: <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/brewers-name-darnell-coles-hitting-coach-b99376831z1-280208182.html">Brewers name Darnell Coles hitting coach</a>.

When we fired Nedley, raise your hand if you thought he'd get to this stage before us - if ever.

Hated him (in a sports context) by the end of his tenure in Milwaukee, but hoping he wins it all now.

EDIT: And don't get me wrong... he was a good manager for the Brewers when our young core was coming up, but he didn't seem to be able to manage a team that was actually a contender. Too many of his in-game decisions drove me (and many others) absolutely nuts.

For whatever reason it seems like firing him when the Brewers did helped right the ship. His role in the Brewers struggles as well as his role in the Royals' success are likely overstated.

That said I'd like to see him win, but I have my doubts the Royals are gonna pull it off.

Not sure I could handle that decision. Say the Brewers get to Game 6 of the World Series at home with a chance to clinch. Do you use it? What if they lose and then you can't go to Game 7, when you had the chance? But if you wait for Game 7, and they win Game 6....
