2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

yep. every single post I have ever made in this thread is negative. oh wait, it's not? and you neither? then I guess it doesn't apply to you, does it? "haulin oats" seems to fit the bill, however.

I think it's okay to complain about getting swept by the Cubs when you are in September and in a fight for the division title. Especially when you look so bad getting swept. Booted balls... no runs... starting pitching getting banged around a bit.

I don't like to see some jumping off the bandwagon though as there's quite a bit of season left and still time to right the ship. Let's see how this next series goes before any more of you do a swan dive.

Nothing's over till it's over.

it's ok to complain when they're playing poorly. but some people do nothing but complain, and this team has been in first place for the majority of the season. This doesn't just apply to Brewers fans - but an awful lot of sports fans - every sport, every level. they don't appear to derive any joy from watching the sport - their enjoyment comes from complaining when things don't go well. It's especially prevalent with those who post on message boards, as the complainers tend to be louder than everyone else. just a vent. IMO, Red Sox fans are by far the worst offenders.

Correct. I'm better at being negative than the Brewers are at playing baseball though.

If you ever want a good laugh the sonsofsamhorn forums are hilarious after a loss. My favorites would be the one where they were up like 9-0 and lost 10-9. And of course the game against the Orioles a couple years back. Some epic meltdowns there :D

With the Brewers I guess I never had high expectations for this year. If they get to the coin flip game I'll be happy. I don't really think this team is a legitimate world series contender and won't be until they acquire a functional farm system. The offense is above average per usual, the bullpen has been surprisingly decent, and the pitching staff pitched above their heads for half a season. But this team lacks a true ace and as mentioned, the pitching was bound to regress a little.

What an incredibly craptastic sports week.

Allright... bottom of the 9th.

Rally Cap on!

Yep.

Had their chances and couldn't cash in. During this streak, the Crew have scored 1, 2, 2, 1, 5, 2, 1, 2, and 2 runs.

I still feel way better about last night's game than any of the Cubs games.
I did too. I was even watching the Crew more rather than the Packers as both games went on.

Well, that's more like it! :)

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

More games like this one please.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Today's game was going so well, that mid-inning the Fox Sports Wisconsin feed decided to cut the game off. :(

... I kid, I kid... but only because the FS Midwest feed also died on my MLB.TV feed. Apparently there is an issue at the park for the uplink trucks? Haudricort still tweeting, so the game is still in progress.

Just before the feed crapped out, even Bill Schroeder and Brian Anderson were just as perplexed by this team, saying that they know they have a good stretch of wins in them to close out this season, but they hope that the team doesn't fall so far back that the stretch of wins doesn't help.

Heh.

Seems the players realized just what was going on, and held a closed door meeting after the game.

"There is no excuse; it's not individual stuff," said Gomez. "We no play like a team. We have to put it in the past and come out tomorrow and win the (expletive) game.

Jesus H. Christ. Three innings in tonight and Yo is being tattooed by the Marlins. :(

Is it my imagination or did Yo used to throw at least 94? Now he's at 91 max. He's a glorified Estrada (who actually pitched well last night). On the bright side, if there is one, Yo is now the all-time Brewer leader in K's, passing Ben Sheets.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I thought he could hit it once in a while when he needed to, but didn't use it regularly.

Fangraphs "PitchFX" for him says similar:
http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfx.aspx?playerid=8173&position=P
Straight up fastballs:
2007 - 95.9 Max, 91.6 Avg
2008 - 93.0 Max, 90.5 Avg
2009 - 97.5 Max, 92.3 Avg
2010 - 96.2 Max, 92.6 Avg
2011 - 95.5 Max, 92.6 Avg
2012 - 94.8 Max, 91.7 Avg
2013 - 94.0 Max, 90.7 Avg
2014 - 94.2 Max, 91.4 Avg

I remembered his curve ball being his deadliest pitch to hitters; sure enough according to the stats that was his second favorite go-to pitch until 2012 when the slider became his second favorite. Not sure what's happened to the curve since then, but he's been using that slider more and more.

He hasn't lost much, but his age is starting to hint in those numbers. Maybe he has slight elbow damage and can't throw the curve like he used to, but the damage isn't severe enough to have surgery? Or maybe he's just gotten predictable to the hitters and needs some confidence boost to get his edge back?
