2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

This birdie putt is no gimme. Johnson struggles on the short ones...

Wow. A three putt. Spieth wins!

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

I'll think of this every time I 3-putt.

And nice to see Paulina dressed appropriately for the golf course.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

That was fun...and painful. I was pulling for Spieth, but gottan feel bad for DJ. Don't look now, but golf has another new superstar. Spieth is going to be winning for years. I'm looking forward to many future Spieth-McIlroy showdowns.

Half way there. I think he can win at St. Andrews, and his game is a good fit for Whistling Straits. It could be a very interesting summer...

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Johnson has basically cemented himself as the choker of this generation of golfers. Maybe, maybe...he pulls a Mickelson and bounces back, but I doubt it.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

59-year old Marine shoots 3 holes-in-one in one round.

A Northern Virginia golfer has shot what many are calling the greatest round of golf ever.

Fifty-nine-year-old Patrick Wills, of Woodbridge, Virginia, carded a 14-under-par 57, including three holes-in-one in an amateur tournament round at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia.

The former Marine’s incredible round came on June 22, during the Summer Solstice tournament at the course, which measured 6,021 yards.

Two of Wills’ aces came on par fours.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

6021 yards? Can it be the best round ever if it was shot on an executive course?

edit: ok, executive is a bit excessive, but still. People have shot 59 on PGA length courses.

The photo of the scorecard shows the Whites circled. The article also states that
When he aced the 334-yard par-four 10th hole, Wills “was shocked, numb, in disbelief.”
That's the distance given for the White tees. Makes me think that he played the whites and the article mistakenly reported the Gold distance. The Whites plays 6386 yds and a 139 slope. That ain't no putt-putt coarse. Even if he did play the golds, at a slope of 133 it's a hell of a round.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Played my first round of the season today, entirely too late. Didn't play terrible considering how long its been since I've swung a club, but still could be much better. Need to straighten out the driver again, and didn't have the touch on the greens back yet. But the best news of all is that I figured out what was causing my huge shanks with my irons, and got it fixed. Now I actually feel like playing more, since I don't have the bad taste of the shanks after the round. It took me 3 years to figure that **** out.

He's 59 years old and is a +4 handicap???

And, IIRC, had something like 22 aces to his name BEFORE this 3 ace round.

Suffice to say, he isn't your typical weekend hack.

No - he's a MARINE! I say he takes on Kim Jung whatsisname in a match for all the marbles! :D

Just something weird about the story. I looked up his USGA card online. He's got a bunch of really low scores (60-65) on what appears to be a legit home course. I play a pretty decent course. When I plug my handicap in to the slope for his home course my handicap is the same as my home course. Our course record is 64 and we've had a lot of really good players play this course. This guy is obliterating that monthly. I think guys like Phil M. and the rest of the tour guys are typically around +5 to +7. There are successful senior tour guys out there with +2's. Strange.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Another thing. That score wasn't posted, even though it was supposed to be legit??? Sounds like someone needs to be reported to the USGA.

According to one article I saw, he was playing in a "fourball" tournament in a group with two sons and a friend. This was the second of three 18 hole rounds they played in the tournament that day. I assume if it was a fourball tournament as most know them, he was playing with a partner against the other two players, and there may have been some conceded putts, but still, a strange situation.

For the past 6 years, I've played three times a week. This year, I have yet to hit a ball. Real interested to see if I have to learn the game all over again, or (hopefully) if I have forgotten my many swing defects and will come out ahead. That's a lot to forget, but my forget game has been steadily improving.
