2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Yeah that's what I'm figuring. It's tough to say. I think RMU would be passed, but Mercyhurst *may* have enough of a cushion.

(You guys have to know what comes next from me...)

A quick glance at the North Dakota pairwise comparisons with Mercyhurst and RMU, and it is at least a possibility that the comparisons flip depending on 'old' vs 'new' (or 'women' vs 'men') Common Opponent comparison method. :-)

Well, not really haha -- Hurst and RMU are both winning their comparisons 3-0, so even if CoOp was incorrect, they would each both still be winning 2-1.

Keep in mind that North Dakota will probably lose somewhere in the WCHA tournament, too.
If UND doesn't lose in the WCHA tournament, then the Dakotans get the auto bid, so for the purpose of this discussion, they DO lose. In addition to the auto-bid possibility that Mercyhurst and RMU lack, UND has more opportunity to change its RPI value. It will be playing a series at Ohio State and then host a quarterfinal versus Bemidji State (subject to change, but that's who it would be as of now.) Meanwhile, the CHA teams play Lindenwood (MU) and Penn State (RMU) and then first-round byes. The bye is not yet a given for the Colonials, but if they lose to Penn State, ouch. So by winning four straight, UND should be able to bump its RPI back above the two CHA squads. Not that we can assume four wins at this point.

That's currently. But if you assume that UND passes one or the other in RPI, then UND maybe wins their pair on the strength of RPI plus CoP, or lose the pair on CoP plus TUC.

Oh I see what you're saying. It's tough to guess what would happen with comparisons outside of RPI because if one jumps another in RPI they will often flip CoOPP or TUC too.

As an example, right now (with games left to play for Mercyhurst vs Lindenwood, and UND vs Ohio) common oppenents bewtween UND and Mercyhust are Lindenwood (both 2-0), Mankato (UND 2-2, MH 1-1), Ohio St (UND 1-1, MH 0-1) and Clarkson (UND 1-1, MH 1-0-1)

That gives CoP to Mercyhurst 4-2-1 or .6421 vs UND 6-4 or .600, old method.

New method, that is Mercyhurst = 1.0 + 0.5 + 0.0 + 0.75 = 2.25, and UND = 1.0 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 2.5. New method UND currently wins CoP

Interesting question. Will the players in Sochi not with Canada or USA have enough time to get back to North America for this weekends games. ?. Players on team Finland would be done playing tomorrow for example, so they could conceivably get back to NA by Thursday. Players on Sweden and Switzerland still play on Thursday, so they would likely not have enough time.

I've heard there is no chance UND gets its Olympic players back for the OSU series. Bemidji will be huge!

At this rate, the Gophers might not be hosting UND after all. TTFKATFS is now down to 10th in the Pairwise listed on USCHO.com following tonight's 2-0 loss to Ohio State.

I sense, CD, that you are not shedding too many tears?

Me neither! :p

Picture BC without Anastos, Wasylk, and Bender for a month and having to play opponents that actually have a pulse. :D
We would still be able to beat a team such as UConn wait a second...

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

So your excuse now is that you had too many good players.
Oooh I like that one!

With Cornell's loss, the race for 4th has gotten really, really tight between Cornell, Harvard, and (suddenly!) BC.

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

There is a price to pay for Olympian recruiting success in an Olympic year. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Still shouldn't have lost any of the last four games with the talent UND has on its team. North Dakota has a very young team and that may be a reason behind the collapse. It will be interesting to see how the playoffs go. Will they show signs of life? (they have beat UW & UM this year) A weird moment for a fan who has watch UND's stock rise every season. I hope we haven't reached a plateau and this may help this talented rookie class in the future! and I wouldn't mind very near future either :)

Tend to agree. The Maverick sweep at home was a surprise to me. Except maybe the Butters factor. Was able to see a replay of the 2nd game. One thought I had is need to get more out of the Warroad kids.

Yeah, the Marvin sisters haven't progressed as much as I had hoped up to this point.
