Yes, you don't know the history between these teams or the athletic competition between these two schools which goes more than a hundred years. You are not aware that at the end of the last RPI-UNION game, Bodie was blindsided by Haggerty, the RPI main thug, which lead to a similar outcome, with 100+ penalty minutes. At no time in any video did I see SA take any action to direct his players off the ice. Bennett keep his players off the ice. You don't know that in College Hockey, Union is, less the RPI games, at the bottom of the the PIM. Bodie is the best Captain this team has had that I can remember. One reason what we know that the RPI players were NOT coming out of the box to congratulate their goalie, is that they were carring their sticks. Please don't give me any Bull **** about how teams always head for the ice to do a group hug carrying their clubs. One of them, #5, used his stick to hit Union Players. That should result in expulsion from College. The good news, I hope, is that the league and the refs are closer to this and will make the right call. They have the history of the schools and the coaches (Alpert has been suspended before). The President of Union was at the game and Jackson is pretty savy. Both schools have a strong engineering bent so I don't think we will see political correctness run amuck. At least we don't throw garbage and broken bottles on the ice when a call does not go our way, like some schools I know.

Strong engineering bent? Union? Does not compute. How is a player holding his stick after he leaves the bench to celebrate ANY clear indicator that they're trying to goon it up? So now Haggerty is the main RPI thug? What happened to all the ranting against Curadi (who I agree should have kept the tiger in the cage, by the way)? You contradict yourself and your viewpoint on things with nearly every post you add to this conversation.

As a side note, before the Union games, RPI was also one of the least penalized teams in the country by average PIM.

Unless this was the first hockey game you've ever seen or you've never stayed to the end of one, your statement is simply ridiculous and it undermines everything else you've written. Clearly you've never played hockey either or else you'd realize that hockey players feel naked without a stick in their hands. It's pretty much a part of the uniform.

I know I'm repeating a point made by someone else but rarely have I seen such an obvious case of either willful ignorance or outright disingenuousness - and it's worth pointing out twice.

RPI piled onto the ice to celebrate the win. Stuff happened from there but it doesn't even start without Bodie. Yes there was a retaliation factor from the previous game but that's not an excuse. The ref almost always penalizes the retaliation more than the original crime - that's just the way it goes in hockey. I'll give Bodie the benefit of the doubt that he was thinking no further ahead than the cross check but he deserves more than a game because of the outcome (and his subsequent face masking and dance with MZ). And so do a couple on RPI's side. Bennett deserves the most.

I expect we will see plenty of discipline handed out to both sides. Perhaps Bodie, Curardi and Bennett should all spend this coming weekend running youth hockey clinics together at a local rink.

Curadi already will be out the entire weekend because of the broad street bully's dive last year.

Putting aside all the fight talk for a moment, awesome game. Lots of really tight, intense hockey, and RPI actually played a full 60 minutes, which I was astounded at (along with the fact that we were able to kill off a decent-length 5-on-3, I thought for sure Union was going to pot one there).

The history I'm referring to is the most recent 3 games between these two teams. That's not living in the past - that's recent and relevant to the discussion.

If we were "living in the past", we'd be clamoring about our back-to-back ECAC Championships and Frozen Four appearance in 2012...all of which mean nothing right now.

CJ is ten times more respected by his peers. Appert is looked at as a joke right now, the Sean Penn of college hockey. AKA Mr Dead Man Walking. RPI needs to move on and bring in a real coah and not a perenial loser and biggest under achiever in ECAC. Especially the tourney. absurd amt of wasted talent over past 5/6 seasons.
