2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Will be interesting to see where Union is when Bennett doesn't have anymore of Leaman's recruits.

This year's freshman class is all recruited by this current staff, and it's arguably the top freshman class in the ECAC. Our fourth leading freshman scorer (Jeff Taylor, a defenseman no less) has 12 points so far this season. For a fun little comparison, RPI's entire freshman class has 11. Next argument.

Give it time. Even assistants' recruiting can slide downhill. Someone on this forum inquired of Mr. Fridgen's departure, and you now know the answer. Your stock will fall eventually.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

I don't think you have to worry about him leaving. I do not think any other school would want him and he is lucky Union turned their head and allowed him keep his job after punching a student athlete. All those who support him should be ashamed of themselves.

Hey Union Fans:

Despite the best efforts of several of the more reasonable members of this thread to encourage RPI fans to keep their vitriol and hate mongering on their side of the fense, it appears not to have worked. At the first opportunity Stay@homeDad is back here spewing hate directed at our school, our coach, our students, our fans and our players and their parents. Can we agree that further efforts at trying to be reasonable are a waste of time? As FlagDude08 has said, he (its really they) will come over to our thread any time they want and trash it any time of day for any reason. Does anyone disagree with this? Are the Union faithfull all on the same page here? We have been staying away from their thread hoping that they would reciprocate. Its clear that they will not. Does anyone see any further discussion warrented, after this latest violent assault on our coach and players by Stay@homeDad, as being worth it?

Its also clear that all the RPI posters are all cut from the same cloth. Does anyone know of any RPI fan that wants to discuss hockey vs just trashing Union College? If there is an RPI fan that wants to talk about hockey can you come forward? I didn't think so.

There are good RPI fans on this forum. For what it's worth, one RPI fan actually gave me positive rep points on a recent post and said he would love to have Mat Bodie on RPI

Please show the specific post in which I made this exact statement, and not any sort of spun paraphrase. If you want to make this personal, I'll bring the gloves.

That still doesn't show me saying it. That shows me quoting you saying it. Try again before I give you the losing horns.

Ken Schott posted some nice videos on the daily gazette website, interviewing Rick Bennett and the seniors. Most of our boys chose Union due to a chance to win, great education, and the coaching staff. However, there is still a lot of Union hockey left to play after senior night. :)

Especially if Yale gets into the tournament. They would have to go to Bridgeport being the host team and that could force Union out of Bridgeport if they were a #1 seed possibly to Cincinnati because I do not see them ever moving Boston College from Worcester. My guess is that if Yale gets in it will be as a #4 seed and in Bridgeport. Quinnipiac probably will be a #2 there unless they run the table in the regular season and win the ECAC tournament title. This will probably bring a midwestern/western team east.

Interesting call if Yale makes it. Yes, they'd have to be in Bridgeport, but the committee has historically tried to keep the #1 seeds as close to home as possible w/o compromising the bracket. If things stay as they are and Union is the #3 seed overall, it almost wouldn't be fair to send them to Cincinnati because Yale is the host school in Bridgeport. I'm not sure how the committee would handle that.

Nevertheless, we still have about a month to worry about that.

While it wouldn't be fair the committee has also tried to avoid conference matchups in the first round if they can. This would be a case where they can avoid it by sending Union out west. Union fans may dislike it but that's likely what would happen.

Which is why we have to root for our friends at Yale to miss the tournament this year. Again, I want as many ECAC teams in the tournament as possible, but in the end, we're all bigger fans of the schools we root for than of the league overall. I want what's best for Union - An eastern regional and an "easy" bracket. Everything else is much further down on my priority list.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

I actually got a call yesterday from the ticket office to take my order for playoff tickets. I guess they are calling season ticket holders. Big improvement over the usual scramble to place orders.

I got a call as well, which was nice. If my memory serves correctly, playoff tickets last year were only $5, now they are $12. Why the increase? Lol

Seeing as how you clinched the first round bye over the past weekend, it makes sense that they can get started now. Perhaps in past years, it wasn't yet evident that you had the first round bye.

Playoff tickets are also $12 at RPI with no alumni decrease, but Cornell tickets were the same $18. The league is the one who sets the price minimums because they are the ones getting the admission payments as opposed to the schools, and although in past years your school may have chosen to subsidize the price, they may not have the option this year for whatever reason.

Trust me, they have never been that efficient in the past.

I would love to go out west. We are a great road team this year. We have only lost two on the road, one to a great QU team and one to great SL Team and I hope they don't play that well again on Saturday. We really come alive when we head out West. We were sky-hi against St. Cloud. Colgate was too in Minnesota. We also have the advantage of surprise. Some of the St. Cloud fans thought we were Dutchman University in Union, New York. :) In Minnesota they thought Colgate was a toothpaste. They are not going to make that mistake again. :) Also we may get a chance to play on big ice, and I think we do better. I think our path to the FF will be easier as we match up better with Western teams. Bridgeport and Worcester are going to be weighed down with HE teams.

Cincinnati is only 10-11 hrs from Schenectady by car. Bridgeport is nearly 3. Not sure about sled dogs.:D

I believe they are required to avoid conference matchups in the 1st round, unless there are 5 or more teams from a conference in the tournament (which is looking less and less likely). So unless 5 teams get in, Yale getting in will bump an ECAC team.
