Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Union has clinched at least a share of the Cleary. The Dutchmen can win it outright with a win tomorrow vs SLU.

Or you could clinch it next week! ;) Hint! Hint! If not you will likely leave us in 8th at the end of the season which means a likely QF matchup with us.....wouldn't you rather have RPI and pay them back for the Mayer's cup or Brown? Good luck to you tomorrow. Who knows whether Jekyl or Hyde shows up tomorrow.

I hope the St. Lawrence team that shows up today is not the team that just took it to RPI or we will have a very very long night. I saw some of the RPI game and you totally destroyed them. I thought RPI was going to pull a white flag out of their pocket and start waving it. As Vecchione said after the Union game, this Union team still needs to play a lot of ice hockey. I know the coaching staff/team has an extremely high regard for St. Lawrence. Last week Sullivan was singing your praises at a press conference. Remember, in the ECAC, the likely, seldon happens.

Thank you Cornell. The noise you heard when time ran out were 2500 Union Fans in Schenectady, applauding you wildly!!!

Well, it was more like 1,000 fans in Schenectady...most fans had already left! It was a very surreal scene as we were waiting for the Cornell-Q result. The funniest part was when we knew via Twitter before anyone on the ice watching the video feed knew.

Celebration over, back to work. We are going to see St. Lawrence, Yale and Brown at their very very best. We had better be ready.

A QU win or tie against Colgate or a Union win or tie against St. L gives us the undisputed 1st seed, sole ownership of the Cleary, and all associated bragging rights, trophys, banners and product endorsements :)

I was cheering for Cornell yesterday. I am a big big QU fan today. "GO BOBCATS !!!!"

The boys came out like gangbusters and kept it up the entire game. CU was limited to 9 SOG after two periods before loosening up a bit in the third when the outcome was no longer in doubt. Colin in particular played a solid if not spectacular game and Daniel Carr returning from injury was a dynamo. Ghost is playing more under control making him even more dangerous. Ciampini turning it on at the right time and along with Vech adding an offensive charge. In other words this team seems to be peaking at the best time. A third Cleary in 3 seasons, oh my how far we've come, especially when taking into consideration that this group is hungry for more, a lot more.

Ponts was out of the lineup last night, is he injured? I hadn't heard.

SLU will be a handful tonight after they handled us in Canton and after whomping RPI last night. I'm looking forward to Senior Night and paying tribute to this remarkable group of student athletes.

Well, for SLU the best scenario is a Saint victory tonight keeping you hungry and giving us two more points against a top 4 team, and then you have something to play for and stomp Yale and Brown (two teams we are trying to catch)! Again, please be considerate tonight! ;-).

As for rooting for QU??? Uhhhhh, no!!! I am pretty sure the have a losing record in their last 5 games now! I think second seed is huge and Colgate will battle hard for it...3rd place has a good chance of getting Yale in the QF and that would not be fun!

I think it is safe to presume that a lot more than 2,500 fans were cheering IN SCHENECTADY, the rink was a sell out and the game was being broadcast on local cable.

Bennett said in the postgame that Pontarelli "should be ready to go here [Saturday], hopefully." He didn't really elaborate on what, if anything, was wrong with him.

The senior night celebration brought tears to my eyes .....

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Congrats on the Cleary and top seed. Wouldn't mind playing you twice in what's left of the season. Or at least once more.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

The intensity these guys brought tonight was carried over from Friday. I thought the game was evenly-played through the first 5 minutes or so until Union started outhustling and out skating SLU shift after shift. About halfway through the second, I was shaking at my head at how dominating they were and how easy they made this look, especially against a good Saints team that dominated RPI the night before.

And of course, the seniors...it really hit me when I realized this class were freshmen during Union's first NCAA tournament appearance. Easily, the most successful group in this program's D-1 history. Very cool of Bodie to give props to Jooris, Grosenick, and Mike Ingoldsby, as well.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

That might have been Union's best weekend of the entire season.

I thought that was a great senior night ceremony. It's the first class I've followed from beginning to end... it's hard to believe that four years have gone by.

Great senior ceremony, a little sad to know Carr, Bodie, Hatch, Sullivan, and Ikkala won't be here next year. We will definitely miss those 5 guys. As far as this weekend's games, when did we become this juggernaut offense?! Our defense was also very good. I am very proud of this team.

Congratulations on the Cleary Cup clinch, and if RPI doesn't win the playoffs/Whitelaw Cup, may Colgate do it instead of Union ;)
