2013-2014 Schedules

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

First time in a while these teams won't play in the regular season. No offense to Oz...but (on paper) Plattsburgh looks to be the better team next year so I am psyched at the potential for Hobart to get a game with them.

Now if we could just get Salve Regina off the schedule... ;)
yes Platty looks top shelf, but im sure Oz would still like to have Hobart

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

I hear you. I doubt anyone in Geneva is happy to not have Oswego on the schedule next year, either.

...And there is no certainly no guarantee Hobart will beat Williams in the first game of the Classic...so Hobart could end up not getting to play either.

Don't write off Oswego this early. They are always good. They'll start from scratch like other years in Pburgh and come out in the top 10. Watch and see.

(I can't believe I beat the Oswego posters to this.)

Oswego's schedule:

First off, I'll second the question about Morrisville here...

Secondly... Elmira x2, Naz x2, Utica x1.5, Curry, Salve Regina, and Connecticut College. When was the last time Oswego had such an unimpressive NC schedule? Sure, you've Utica on there potentially twice, and here's hoping Elmira can get things back together after an embarrassing 12/13 season, and we all hope Naz can continue to improve to become a truly competitive opponent. But look at the rest of that schedule.

If we assume Elmira and Naz will be about as competitive as they were last year, Oz has 1, maybe 2, quality OOC games this season against Utica. And that's assuming Utica doesn't fall off the standard they reached last season!

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

Oswego is playing both SUNY games against Morrisville at Morrisville??

If you look at the Fredonia schedule, it's the same way (both at Fredonia). I wonder if they are going to start doing this with Morrisville to help out with travel since Morrisville has no travel partner, and alternate the years teams play their two games home and away against them.

There's no question Naz is on their schedule because of the George Roll connection.

a different schedule than we are used to a few new teams and a few old missing, who knows??? What do we think the "showcase " is?? ps the Pathfinder looks to be a fairly Stout tourny :p

Too bad the details could not be worked out for SNC to participate in this Tourney....would have given me the chance to see Oswego's "Barn on the Lake".......

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

I'd like a little more strength in the schedule, but I understand why they took down a notch. The kids may need a little confidence. It's going to be the year new Laker fans have gotten accustomed to. If we get 2nd or 3rd, I'll be pleased.

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

A few things:

1. Interesting how the Pathfinder is no longer Dec 30/31. I know it's because of the later start, and I'm glad. It's also a good thing that start times for BOTH days are 4 and 7. I HATED the 1p/4p starts on the second day.

2. The "Laker Showcase" on 10/26 looks like a fun night. Bakdraft, from the release:

"The Oswego State men's ice hockey team takes to the ice on Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m. during Family and Friends Weekend for the Laker Men's Ice Hockey Showcase, which will feature the talents of the players via two periods of intrasquad competition followed by a skills challenge and autograph session."

I'm glad they're doing this, but an exhibition game thrown in there at some point would have been nice to see.

Getting a team to play an exhibition that late in the year would be tough. Plus, they mostly play those games to shake off the rust and get the new guys some minutes before the season starts, it doesn't make a ton of sense to play one after you already have games in. The USNTDP would maybe be available but having come to Oz last year they would probably want a return trip to Ann Arbor and I doubt Eddie would want to do that.

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

Utica-syndrome?
To an extent. The goal is to maximize the number of home games and keep the travel to a minimum. Which is why it is puzzling that they aren't playing Hobart this year. It is the closest D3 team to Oswego and yet they aren't playing one another.

I'm kinda surprised they don't have Canton on there with Gilly as the new coach there, although the schedules were likely settled on before he took over.

Re: 2013-2014 Schedules

Kinda surprised that at least two of Adrian's 4 non conference games vs the SUNYAC aren't against WIAC teams.

I like how the new NCHA has Adrian and SNC playing their two games very late in the season. Already looking forward to that series ...
