2013-2014 D1 Commitments

Re: 2013-2014 D1 Commitments

I would never disparage anyone, player or otherwise on this forum..... I was making an observation which if you read the post was quite well qualified (a season ago, limited games etc...). I wish this player and everyone else all the best for their individual success. I am well aware of who Cap Raeder is and his qualifications. He was there less than one half day per week when my daughter attended NAHA 11-12. The remainder of the time there the goalies received no formal instruction which IMHO is less than ideal. Again IMHO Bill and Jessie have very little insight into goalie teaching and management but be that as it may they certainly run a well oiled machine.
For what its worth if you want the facts my daughter did not dress for the final weekend at NAHA as she was injured and I have been around hockey for over 50 years having grown up in Southwestern Ontario and had a cup of coffee in the "O" myself....doesn't make me an expert but maybe qualifies my observations.

I'm not Ashley Wilkes parent and I can assure you that Ashley's parents have never visited this site before. Cap Raeder spends 1 hr one day a week with the NAHA goalies and six shooters. He then stays on for the practice following the goalie session. Compare that with almost any other women's hockey program and you'll find more time and energy devoted to the goalie position than most programs.

Five goalies next year? Someone's getting the ax or leaving.

Gilligan will again be the number 1 goalie. My guess is Vaattovaara will be leaving. Jean, Bradley and the NAHA player will be competing to push Gilligan and be a suitable number 2.

There will be a few more announcements coming out of Chicago soon. One forward from the Mission, and goaltender from CYA. Stay tuned...

Ok so basically 1 hour per week with the goalies and he then stays on for the practice.... So that somehow equates to more time and energy than most programs? For a program that skates 1 1/2 hours a day 6 days a week. I would say that is marginal at best.

I would agree that for a full time hockey academy that this seems pretty low. A NE club team (like Assabet, Spitfires, Wizards, Polar Bears, etc.) only skates one day per week typically (Sundays when the prep school kids are available) so I wouldn't expect them to get much/any goaltending specific training at the high school level. This is why the NE goalies generally have their own goalie coaches that they meet with once or twice a week. But I would have expected places like NAHA (and the other JWHL teams) and Shattuck to have more than this, especially given the cost....

As of yesterday, here is the press release (note the "2013 class" in the press release includes 2013, 2014 and 1 2015 grad): http://www.chicagomission.com/news_girls.htm#2013class (all of those kids are listed on this forum in the appropriate places).

Plus, you are right 1 more 2013 Mission Forward.

Hey she's not from Minny! What's the big idea taking one of our girls spot?

Yes the group next fall is 3 from MN, 1 from Canada and 1 from Austria. Team will still have a high concentration from the State of Hockey (losing 1 from MN and gaining 3 so net increase)

Well then, their record should improve :)
