Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Why do you think that is? Do they get good fan support? Or is it something else?
Better coaching for one. Very small building, and although the ice surface is 200 x 85, Merrimack does a good job defensively of making it seem a lot smaller. Some home ice advantage with the way the puck bounces off the boards. You'll see more than one Warrior pass off the back board to a man in the slot, especially on a Mac power play. ;)

Not sure if this is holding true this season, but every time my team plays there, it's like a war! You find out tonight, I'll find out Tuesday.

I just noticed this morning that they're playing BC on Tuesday. That's 3 big games in 5 days... I wonder if that helps us tonight in terms of them saving something for a league contest against another tough team? Either way, we need to be prepared to take it to them from the opening faceoff and can't take anything for granted.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

But I guess beggers can't be choosers.
You get what you pay for Ken! ;)

I've heard that they really want to improve the feed. For example, those of us there in person don't particularly like the scoreboard/clock superimposed on the big screen but that's the only way they can provide it on the feed at the moment. I think their focus is making everything right for the Women's Frozen Four and then they'll worry about all these other details.

Since everything QU does is top notch I'm sure they'll work everything out in due time.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

That was ugly... :(

A better 1st than last night but not good enough with the Warriors taking a 2-1 lead into the break. Much better in the 2nd although they could only mange to tie it at 2. The 3rd was bad on all accounts, including the officiating. One of the worst re*** games I've seen. Not that it cost us the game, but it certainly didn't help. We did take some stupid penalties but the zebras seemed to be having a 2 for 1 special.

Garteig had maybe his worst outing of the year. Didn't seem comfortable and even looked like he had trouble seeing the puck. Gave up at least 3 that I'm sure he'd like back.

Kudos to Merrimack for putting together a game plan that worked well for them at home. They used their size and speed to their advantage tonight. Not sure what our problem was but we can certainly play better than we did.

Nice contingent of Q faithful which was nice to see.

Hopefully the off week doesn't slow us down. Good time to iron out the kinks and mad a strong run to the finish.

A big win for the Warriors tonight. I was interested in seeing how they would respond after their coach called the team out after Friday nights game.

“We have struggled with success a lot,” Merrimack head coach Mark Dennehy said. “We have some guys who are very easily satisfied. We have some guys who are just happy to be playing Division 1. That falls on me. They’re not ready, willing or able to compete for a championship. You play games like that, and it becomes really obvious. I feel bad for the guys that are, because we have some guys who are really battling out there and you can’t do it with 8-10 guys

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Sick highlight reel goal scored by Sam Anas batting it in twice out of mid-air.
There were several Merrimack fans that were convinced that puck never went in. I was standing behind the left side of the net and clearly saw the puck in the net, as the video also shows. Sick is an accurate term for Anas' puck kills.

I guess all is not lost in the loss... we somehow moved up to 3rd in the Pairwise and RPI.

.

welcome to our world of brilliant HE officiating ................ Mack is tough in their barn and have BC there Tuesday night. They have given us fits at Lawler the past 5 years or so

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Wow! I was sitting right in front of the play and don't think I saw how that unfolded.
Same here. From behind the net I didn't see him whack it twice, and never saw JST deflect it either. All I know was the puck went in the net which was good enough for me at the time.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Brutal effort all around by us last night was pretty unacceptable. We were beaten to pucks had some careless turnovers and Michael Garteig was horrendous last night by giving up at least 3 easy goals that he should have had. That arena is a dump. A glorified NIP and no nothing more. The Hockey East officials were awful. They call tons of penalties. Man do I love how rugged the ECAC let's there teams play physical hockey.

It's a barn. With character. Filled with characters. No nothing more. ;)

Hate to say I told you so. Now my team goes in there on Tuesday night. It will be bloody, but hope no one gets hurt. The final score is secondary when you play Mac at Mac. ;)

Other than the really low ceiling I thought it was ok for a smaller barn at a smaller school.

Hate to say I told you so.
I don't think the team got your memo. Like I said, Merrimack put together a complete game plan and did what they needed to do. I'm sure having last change was a benefit to them as they seemed to counter all of our lines quite effectively. And they obviously frustrated us out of our game plan.

We were three heading into the game and St. Cloud and ferris lost as well yesterday so we didn't slip but we got some catching upto do with BC and minny

The rink is small and the ceilings are low, but I don't know how you call it a dump. The rink has been completely redone over the last five years and you should have seen it before. My apologies for the smallest school in Division I having a decent not spectacular rink.

Haven't been to the renovated rink yet. Always though of the old one as intimate. No matter where you sat you were practically out on the ice.

Just a fact check here .... Colorado College is the smallest school that plays Division I Hockey. Union College is next, then St. Lawrence (I am only counting undergraduates)
Colorado College 2018
Union 2241
St. Lawrence 2398

Merrimack has either 2500, 2447, 2400 or maybe 2313 based on where you look.

Some others:
Mercyherst 2700
Canacus 3300
Colgate 2871
Dartmouth 4193
Harvard & Cornell ~20,000

Also, your teams wiki page is wrong. I think it is assuming that NCAA Div I Hockey only includes Hockey East.
