2013-14 Pre Season banter. Put out the SOS and save us all!!

Re: 2013-14 Pre Season banter. Put out the SOS and save us all!!

Russell can correct me but I'm pretty sure Canton is looking at 2015-16 for their first full D-III year and SUNYAC/ECAC West member?

Canton/Hamilton is the first game of any NESCAC team on November 9th. Given it is before the 'Cac opening on the 15th and Canton's status, I guess we can call this a pre-season game?

Re: 2013-14 Pre Season banter. Put out the SOS and save us all!!

Canton's a full member of D-III and SUNY-AC this year?

Canton is not a member of any league yet and I hope they go the way of ECAC-West. This will finally give the West an AC and gets rid the travel issues for the SUNYAC. Plus it might bring other ECAC-West teams up to the north country for a road trips to play Platty, Potsdam, or possible Oswego. It would make both conferences better in the long run I beleive.

Prez: This is Canton's second year as DIII. They had only 6 home games last year and 10 this year. The 10 can right from Coach Gilligan.

2013-14 is the second year of their provisional status (they will have completed their years at the start of the 2015-16 season, though they could, in theory, apply for and possible get a waiver at the end of 2014-15).

They are still on probation in the NCAA, so they are not "full members", i.e., not eligible for any playoffs.

I think any on-ice ads have to go. Plus, wouldn't an NCAA logo need to be added?

Yes and yes (caveat -- I think for early round games, you don't need to put the on-ice logo, but I can't see beer ads being allowed to stay).

I seem to recall ads for Bootlegger's Brewpub and Fun Center a Plattsburgh pub & micro-brewery (now called Legends Brew Pub & Wine Bar - located at the "infamous" HOT spot - Comfort Inn & Suites) being present at Stafford during early NCAA rounds (when all the ads were still up).

Very intrigued by the orientation of the interlopers (oops, sorry, that was a typo.....that should read "Comets") logo. It appears to be facing the penalty box side, and not what is normally considered the front of the arena.

I had, however, heard that Utica College would not have a logo on the ice.

Pairwise in D3?

Pairwise in D3?

So what are the chances that D3 will see something similar to what D1 is now using to select the at-large NCAA bids? and would the data even be valid if calculated for D3? Prof?

Only downside would be not having Fish and Remy go at it all Summer.

Once upon a time, D-III had a 15 point sliding point scale for every game. You got 15 points if you beat a team with a great record on the road, 14 if you did it at home. You got 2 points if you lost to a really bad team on the road and 1 point for losing at home.

It did not last long.

IMO, the PWR just wouldn't work at all for D-3, because most teams play such an insular schedule. (As in: too few games OOC to build a meaningful data-base between divergent conferences.)

Truth be told, it doesn't work all that well in D-1 either... It's way too volatile, often owing to that ridiculous TUC-cliff that is ridiculously arbitrary and redundant.

I'll take the KRACH until I see something better out there, but even having said that, there are no meaningful statistical E/W comparisons to be made in D-3, by any measure... The twain seems never to meet.

Re: Pairwise in D3?

You mean the TUC criterion that this article says has been eliminated?

Despite spending most of their lives in school, fish can't read. I was wondering what part of a team with a Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of .500 or above is called a “team under consideration" is "arbitrary"?

Why are we talking about RPI? Though they are a D-III school, they play up in D-I.

Oh. Never mind.
