Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part III: October Surprise!

Seriously, arguing about which politician lies more is akin to arguing who was the bigger murder, Stalin or Hitler.

Trick question. The answer is: Mao.

Therefore, the biggest liar is obviously Gary Johnson.

Not sure why you didn't. Selective hearing loss?

I wasn't the one who used flip-flops for props at my convention in '04. I guess all those folks were picking Stalin or Hitler as well.

Obama again said he’d raise taxes on upper-income persons only to the “rates that we had when Bill Clinton was president.” Actually, many high-income persons would pay more than they did then, because of new taxes in Obama’s health care law.

I don't get that part. The only "new taxes" is if you don't carry health insurance. Sounds like the fact checkers aren't very good.

But Obama did not account for the new taxes on those same upper-income taxpayers included in his Affordable Care Act. Starting next year, there will be a new 3.8 percent tax on “unearned” net investment income — such as capital gains from the sale of stocks or real estate, dividends, interest income, annuities, rents and royalties. Also starting Jan. 1 is a new 0.9 percent Medicare surcharge on top of the current Medicare payroll tax. Both taxes apply to taxable compensation that exceeds $200,000 for singles, or $250,000 for couples filing jointly. Those two taxes combined are projected to bring in nearly $210 billion over the next seven years, according to the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation.
I'm reminded of the opening line to "A Soapbox Opera" by the group Supertramp

Edit: Sorry. That was kind of harsh. Failure to know about these new taxes could easily be explained by the fact that no one really knew what was in the bill until it was passed. ;)

I think this is the point where Jack Welch officially "jumped the shark". For the record, I believe the jobs numbers in the months leading up to the 2004 election managed to barely put Bush over the top for net job creation during his term. I don't recall anybody crying conspiracy theories over that...

One more jobs report to go right before election day. If it stays around 100K I'm not sure what the rational is for electing Mittens. Obama can realistically argue he's brought the country back from the brink that he inherited and if you give him 4 more years it'll continue on this path. Why I'm inclined to believe these #'s is because the private sector job creation #'s have been running in the mid 100'000's for awhile now. Govt job reductions are dragging the total down (something Obama would be smart to site in the next debate) but I'm speculating most of those cuts are done.

Just curious, do Axelrod's lips move while you're talking?

You have to make 200 grand? No wonder I didn't give a rip. :)

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part III: October Surprise!

Poppycock. All politicians are called out on their flip-flops. Obama's been eviscerated for "Hope and Change", cutting the deficit, the overall jobs numbers. All promises he made that he didn't fulfill.

Romney up until now has been a right wing extremist. He spent the entire debate lying about his positions. I don't see how that changes him. All that proves is that the most important thing to him is being President. Nothing else matters.

Quite unlike His Messiahness. Right? He's only concerned about the peeepul. Romney lies. His Phoniness "evolves." I'm wonderring, do you get a cash bonus or something everytime you assert Romney "lies?" And do you get a similar bonus every time His Islamistness is found to be, uh, less than candid (and you ignore it)? You know, like his tsunami of lies after the murders in Benghazi?

I wish. Having one of those high buck campaign jobs would be a lot of fun.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part III: October Surprise!

Sun spots.

BTW, there is a better conspiracy theory out there than the Bureau of Labor Statistics faking the numbers. The new Echo Chamber meme is that liberals are lying about getting jobs to push the numbers higher.

If only we were that organized.

Could have fooled me; I see the rhetoric y'all put on the MSM. Actually, I don't even have to watch MSM, I can just read it here. :D

If "Bush Lied Kids Died" worked, of course they're going to try to run the record even after it's broken.

Holy cook the books, Batman! 7.8% unemployment. We're saved.

Obama wouldn't know evisceration if it hit him on the head. The day Obama is called out on the deficit in a meaningful way, I'll change my tune. He's skated on that promise, as with many others, for four years and still the media avoids saying anything, other than a handful of conservative outlets.

You must not watch the outlets I do then. It's all in where you look.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part III: October Surprise!

Yah, those MSNBC folks are constantly drilling Obama about the deficit. Poor guy.

Who said anything about MSNBC?

Conservatives sure do have a persecution complex when it comes to the media.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part III: October Surprise!

well, Guantanomo is still open ....

I find it ironic that they no longer want to capture terrorists to obtain information, because they are too squeamish, yet they have a fun time picking out which terrorists to hit with Predator drones!

What on earth does that have to do with Romney appearing more "middle of the road" if he flip flops on an issue?

I pointed out an issue that Romney flip flopped on where he moved further right.

You made a generic claim that media outlets go after Obama. MSNBC is, at least loosely defined, a media outlet.

Just because MSNBC doesn't drill Obama doesn't mean he doesn't get drilled.

Wrong. Before PPACA, the Medicare tax applied only to earned income. Now if your total income from all sources is over $200,000 (I think) then the 3.8% medicare tax also applies to investment income.

Edit: oops, Busterman62 beat me to it.

Scooby, your response to him was so limp-wristed....Obama said he wanted to go back to Clinton's tax rates on the wealthy, except he really wants them to be 10% higher than Clinton's tax rates on the wealthy.....
