2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

You, sir, win the Man award.
Not just based on that. I know a guy who projects onto a 10-foot wall (so similar in size), then built bleachers which he outfitted with easy chairs so as to have friends watch in stadium-style leisure. Biggest weenie on earth. Just sayin' even weenie's are into electronics.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

I'm actually glad the games are on ESPN3 because, unlike pretty much any other options, it means I can watch them. :D

A buddy of mine had the same setup, with speakers built into the ceilings/walls, with wireless everything that was in another room. There was a little box on his coffee table that served as the receiver for the remote (the box was about as big as PS3 controller).

Ah, yes, in 2006 the east regional was at the Times Union in Albany (Pepsi Arena back then). I was at that game and Maine defeated #1 seed Michigan State 5-4. Maine defeated Harvard in the first game 6-1. Michigan State defeated New Hampshire in the other game.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Don't forget Sandelin.

All of this can mean only one thing: UMD, Maine, and BC's Eastern clutchness will cancel each other out and Air Force will shock the world. Or at least the tiny fraction paying attention.
I quoted Biddco also, and in doing so, included Sandelin in my post. Fiver does not miss a trick. ;)

Now, about that Eastern clutchness... I do recall BC getting their clocks cleaned by NoDak at Worcester and losing to Cornell at Providence a few years back, so take us out of the clutchness equation. Air Force???... have no idea about their Eastern regional dominance.

So here's how it goes. One of the Maine/UMD teams will lose, thereby leaving only one undefeated Eastern Regional team. Air Force... if they're undefeated in the East up to this point, that will end Saturday. :) The remaining undefeated from the Maine/UMD game?... Gonna get your clocked cleaned on Sunday by the team that beat Air Force. :) :p

There... may you all enjoy your undefeated status for another 4-5 days. :D :p

I remember the good, old days when the Sioux had BC's number. The series is tied at 11-11 with some ties. Sadly, it seems like all 11 losses have come since the 2000 championship game victory over them.

There are two schools VERY happy not to be in the same Regional as BC: NoDak and Miami. Huge sighs of relief from both.

Joey Diamond is a name that tUMD fans will get to know. Unless the game's a blowout, and you're drowning your joy/sorrow with a beverage of choice, too oblivious to care . . . you'll probably be ready to kill Diamond by the 3rd period. Possibly, Maine fans will, as well.

He's Maine's best finisher, best provoker, and plays with a slight chip on his shoulder. He may be on his best behavior, since another misconduct will mean a suspension. Then again, he may not. Flip a coin. He'll be noticeable, though.

Diamond will be easy to spot. Just look for the UMD player writhing on the ground in agony after being hit from behind/boarded/charged from center ice/slewfooted/slashed or the like and Diamond will be the one headed to the box.

Despite the claims of Maine fans that Dimaond is simply "an agitator" or "a kid plays with an edge", in reality he's just a dirty scumbag player who enjoys taking iiberties with the well being of those he plays against.

Having said all that, I do understand the "yeah, but he's OUR scumbag" mentality , so I don't totally begrudge Maine fans that stand behind their guy. Let's just call a spade a spade.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Whitehead has been in an Eastern regional four times: 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007. Each of those years Maine made the FF. Thus the 8-0.

In 2003, Maine lost to Michigan at Yost. In 2005 Maine lost to Minnesota at Mariucci.

Other than being on the wrong end of the 02 and 04 games, Whitehead had a nice thing going with Maine and the NCAAs . . . until the bottom fell out.

honestly, i had not realized (until i looked at the old results just now) that he had made it that far so many times, thanks for posting that. Perhaps it's because most Maine fans have been dumping on him so much and for so long that I just figured he could not have been THAT successful!;) so he has gone to 4 frozen fours since he started coaching Maine, 4 in 10 years.........., that's not too shabby at all

I couldn't resist. The entire post that you quoted was tongue-in-cheek -- as Carmine noticed. The fact that a fan of a random team not playing in the regional would notice it and respond with sincere outrage . . . well it kind of *does* prove the original point. :)

I don't deny that he's earned responses like this. He wouldn't be on the wrong end of so many reputation calls if he didn't have a reputation.

I also wouldn't deny that he has a nose for the net. 25 goals in a short college season suggests that, outrage notwithstanding, there's some skill lurking in there somewhere.

In your rant, you forgot about the embellishment penalties he draws.:D

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

From the notes at the end of the preview in today's Bangor Daily News
UMD is the nation’s top scoring team (3.64 goals per game) and it is 16th in goals against (2.56). The power play is ranked No. 15 (21 percent) and the penalty-killing is 53rd (77.6 percent). The Bulldogs are 18th in penalty minutes (14.1 per game).

Maine is seventh in scoring (3.36), tied for 31st in goals against (2.79) and has the second best power play (26.9). It is 45th in penalty killing (79.4) and is the third most penalized team in the country (18.6).

I think that might just be the way forward. I was certain that no other team still playing had a penalty kill as ineffective as Maine's. I was wrong.

So UMD is the highest scoring team in the country, and they also have one of the weakest penalty kills in the country.
Maine is one of the best power play teams in the country, but their penalty kill has been only a shade more effective than UMD's.

I have a feeling that practice tomorrow will feature some special teams work.

Kills men by the hundreds. Consumes his opponents with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

We have Charter at home, but CenturyLink(qwest) at work and it worked the same there.

That's the point...some of us DON'T HAVE a "cable" provider, because we have DirecTV. We can't see ESPN3. It's not just whether or not you have Comcast - it's ANY cable provider. I checked the "guide" on DirecTV last night (you can forward ahead to a specific date). I didn't see ANY of the college hockey games on any of the Fox network channels (a couple said "To Be Announced"). And what really sucks is that EVERY regional game except the ones from the West Regional are on one of the ESPN channels, but because, as I said before, the BU/Minnesota game is an "overlap" game (on at essentially the same time as the BC/Air Force game) it is not on.

Belches instead of burps, farts instead of passing gas...he is, in a word, malicious. What do you expect from Long Island.
