2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

The games are Sat and Sun. I'm not positive I can make it Sunday (plus Maine would have to win) am more concerned with Saturday's game.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Maine's not deep, compared to really, anyone except BU since half their team left. To win the regional, Maine will need secondary scoring, which means a guy like maybe Mark Anthoine or Kyle Beattie has a big weekend. Other than that what Wally said.

If Abbott plays and is himself, I really think any one of 3 teams can win this one. If not, I don't see how Maine can win, barring an absolute explosion by somebody else or some kind of flukey goalie intervention.

If Maine's at 100% I think this has the potential to be the best first round match-up on the board. Possible Hobey implications if Abbott's OK, that's pretty cool if you ask me.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Regional networks are free to pick up any of the ESPN3 games -- they all say "ESPN Syndication" on them. If you have a dish you'll probably get some/most of them.

True, but just so that everyone is clear on this (Tom Cruise: "Am I clear?" Jack Nicholson: "Crystal")...YES, you will "get" them, but not for free. I have DirecTV - regarding the "regional" sports networks, unless you have them included in your "package" you get that message "You are not subscribed to this channel." So it's not as if you can just flip over and watch them. You will have to pay. Not that I won't, but I just want everyone to realize that they're not available for FREE.

I have DirecTV with all the regional sports networks. I'm hoping one of them picks it up. Also, there are alternate ESPN channels. Is it possible one of them will show the game live? Biddco, there is an open invitation to watch it at my house if it is shown live on a channel I can get on DirecTV.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

I think BC/AFA could be interesting. BC (as always) has incredible speed, and they seem to have gotten better as the season has worn on. They are peaking at the right time for sure.

I think this is the worst possible match-up for Air Force. This isn't some overrated EZAC team like last year or a #4 seed like Michigan was in 2009. Last time these two teams played (at Mariucci in 2007) wasn't pretty, and I don't think this one will be either. The string of "close losses" has to end sometime. In five tournaments, Air Force has played in Denver once, Worcester twice and Bridgeport twice. Would be nice to have a little variety.

I really wish BU hadn't gooned Abbott into the boards Friday. Clear contact to the head and intent to injure. Almost ruins the regional. I think BC will advance easily, although Duluth might put up a fight Sunday.

OK - so I just spoke with my friend who works for ESPN Radio. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. ANY game on ESPN3 is NOT available to be picked up by regional networks, because it's streamed on the internet only. And it's even worse for DirectTV subscribers, because in order to get agame on ESPN3 you have to be an EXISTING CUSTOMER of a CABLE network. When you log in to watch the game, you have to select from a drop-down list the cable company that you subscribe to. If you don't have one, you can't watch the game. Eventually ESPN3 will be going away to make room for the new "WatchESPN" app (now a mobile phone app), but until then, since they don't have deals with any satellite providers, it looks like if your team's game is on ESPN3 and you are a satellite subscriber, you're out of luck.

In my case, the BU game is essentially on at the same time as the BC game. Anyone who knows the Boston market knows that BC is king. The BC/Air Force game will be on ESPNU (4:00 p.m. EDT), which means that no regional network is going to pick up the BU gmae (5:00 p.m. EDT) and go up against the BC game. So we're out of luck...
And the radio station on which the BU game is broadcast is like tuning in Finland unless you live about 600 feet from Boston (and when the power is reduced at sundown we won't hear it at all). I believe regulations do NOT allow that game to be streamed either, so it's either over the air or nothing (which in my case, again, is nothing). So if I want to see BU/Minnesota I will have to fly to St. Paul...

It's actually Jack Nicholson who asks "Are we clear?!?" And, Tom Cruise responds with "Crystal." It's certainly the best scene from one of my favorite movies.

I have it at my house! Thank you Comcast. I plan on attempting to hook up my laptop to my downstairs television.

I see plenty of Maine information being dealt out but not much coming back in return! Loose lips sink ships!

So why is it listed as a "syndication" game? Doesn't this mean it is available for local outlets?

I'll keep in touch and let you know if it is being televised elsewhere and I can watch the game real-time. You may prefer to watch it on my 150" screen!

150"? Do you own a mid-size sports arena? Cripes, I was in a sports bar and they boasted two 90" screens...

I have a projection system in my basement that projects in a wide screen format on a large wall painted with a flat white paint.

Servants also bring you cold refreshments before heading back to their living quarters.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Just my opinion but I have to give BC the nod. I think they are a better team than they were in December by a big margin, they move the puck extremely well, and have tremendous depth. I saw Maine twice and was very impressed, especially with the goaltending. As far as Duluth, they are good, but are vulnerable in their own end at times, I don't think they are as deep as BC. I agree on AF. the work rate is unbelievable.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

I think Chickod went on to explain in another thread that the problem comes up if you have DirectTV...
