2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

So far the CHN projection makes the most sense to me. It's the best from an attendance perspective which at the end of the day is what is driving the train. Worcester and St. Paul would be sell outs. Bridgeport is light but not like some of the other crazy *** ideas floating around. Big Blue anchors GB. Waiting to see what Moy thinks.

CHN projection:

Northeast Region, Worcester: 1. Boston College vs. 16. Air Force / 7. Minnesota-Duluth vs. 10. Maine
Midwest Region, Green Bay: 2. Michigan vs. 13. Cornell / 6. Ferris State vs. 11. Denver
East Region, Bridgeport: 3. Union vs. 15. Michigan State / 5. Miami vs. 12. Massachusetts-Lowell
West Region, St. Paul: 4. North Dakota vs. 14. Western Michigan / 8. Minnesota vs. 9. Boston University

Based on a field of:
1. Boston College
2. Michigan
3. Union
4. North Dakota
5. Miami
6. Ferris State
7. Minnesota-Duluth
8. Minnesota
9. Boston University
10. Maine
11. Denver
12. Massachusetts-Lowell
13. Cornell
14. Western Michigan
15. Michigan State
16. Air Force

I agree Magness. I have seen a few put Michigan in St Paul, because it's better for the bracket integrity. But, I think it unlikely, because it leaves UND fans a long way from Green Bay, and Michigan fans a long way from St Paul. If UMD were in UND's place, I would consider it, but they are not...

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

By looking at the PWR and figuring out that Minnesota is the lowest #2 and that they have to play a Hockey East team...they should play #9. That would be BU. The only other option would be sending UML out there, but why should Minnesota get the lowest ranked #3? You guys should be packing your bags for St. Paul.

It's not that simple. For bracket integrity, # 8 MN should also be placed opposite the #1 overall seed. So I guess BC will be the top seed in St. Paul.

Except they won't. And once you make that adjustment, it has a cascade effect. It's not a no-brainer at all for BU to go west, imo.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

The NCAA first round basketball games have been about half empty on Thursday and Friday's games.

Why would they drown bracket integrity for ticket sales in a different sport?

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

If the past few years taught us anything its that bracket integrity will be maintained and intra-conference first round match-ups will be avoided.

Getting cute worrying about attendance will submarine bracket integrity, so won't be a factor.

Not much way to have good bracket integrity this year. The #1 v #4 matchups can't stay because of Mich and MSU/WMU. And, Minnesota being a low #2 messes everything up. Easiest swap to fix that is Mich for UND, but I think that ends up requiring a bunch more flying, too....

Not sure why you mentioned something that we both know would never happen. Bottom line is Minnesota already has the advantage of playing in St. Paul...I can't see the committee sending them the lowest rated #3 seed when they don't have to. BU to St. Paul SHOULD be a formality.

as should you for being the 1. in the next round the 1-8 matchup should hold for bracket integrity. but since you ain't, we hold the 1-x-9-16 bracket in worcester and allow the 8 to stay home to host. we can fill the hole with the 7.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

I also think empty rinks the last few years have been a major issue. Remember when it was just you and I two years ago in the lower bowl of Albany DG? The fixes are minor and would mean lots of dollars and be good for the sport. No brainer IMO.

NCAA gets their money no matter what. The host school and the venue take a bath.

I would grant you that is reasonable. I have a question, since you are keen on bracket integrity. Would keeping 8/9 and 7/10 together be better bracket integrity yet?

I think the 1 x 9 16 integrity is more important than the 8/9.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Maine and Duluth playing split-squad in the NCAAs?

Hey, it could be fun.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Ignoring attendance issues sends the fans the wrong message. I'll most likely never travel to a regional again for that very reason. Putting UND and the Gophs at the X is a lock for a sell out.

no. it is always 1) fill a host in their bldg, then 2) apply the teams as required in the bands. though here it doesn't matter since you are placing two hea teams against 2 mn teams.
