Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

The #2 seeds look like this:

5 Miami 26 .5488*
6 Ferris State 25 .5488
7 Minnesota-Duluth 23 .5483*
8 Minnesota 22 .5486*

Who goes west? Obviously Minnesota goes to St. Paul, but what about the others?

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

I guess I'm probably asking the same question twice, but why would they not send UMD to Green Bay and ship Ferris east? Is it just straight seeding there?

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

My best guess: Note - the nightmare scenario where Maine comes back and wins is a nightmare because the sites (USCHO, CHN, don't agree on who gets the last spot. It's a tiny difference in the computation of the RPI of NMU and Merrimack that makes the problem. And, the difference in the 4th or 5th decimal place, and turns the compare, so that either MSU or Merrimack might get in.)

BC and UND win (potential swap of Cornell and Maine):
Worcester : 1) BC v 16) Air Force ;; 7) UMD v 9) BU
Bridgeport : 2) Union v 15) MSU ;; 6) Miami v 12) Cornell
Green Bay : 3) Michigan v 14) Lowell ;; 5) Ferris v 11) Denver
St Paul : 4) No Dakota v 13) W Michigan ;; 8) Minnesota v 10) Maine

BC and Denver win (Potential swap of Miami and FSU in this one):
Wor : 1) BC v 16) AFA ;; 8)UMD v 9t) BU
Brid : 2) Union v 15) MSU ;; 6t)UND v 9t) Maine
GB : 4t)Michigan v 13t) Lowell ;; 4t) Ferris v 9t)Cornell
St P : 3)Denver v 13t) WMU ;; 6t) Miami v 9t) Minnesota

Maine and UND win (nightmare scenario – who is right??) (Potential of Maine swapping to Bridgeport):
Wor : 1) BC v 16) AFA ;; 8) UMD v 10t) BU
Brid : 2) Union v 15) Merrimack or MSU :: 5t) FSU v 10t) Cornell
GB : 3) Mich v 13t) Lowell ; 5t) Miami v 10t) Denver
St P : 4) UND v 13t) WMU ;; 7) Maine v 9) Minnesota

Maine and Denver win (also nightmare – who is in between Merrimack and MSU?):
Wor : 1) BC v 16) AFA ;; 7t) UMD v 7t) Ferris
Brid : 2) Union v 15) Merrimack or MSU :: 7t) UND v 10) Cornell
GB : 3) Mich v 11t) Lowell ; 5t) Miami v 11t) BU
St P : 4) Denver v 11t) WMU ;; 5t) Maine v11t) Minnesota
(In this situation, the committee probably moves Maine to Bridgeport, UND to GB, and Miami to St P)

Well, Denver is getting buried right now, so scenario #2 is probably out of the question.

Because then history would not be repeating itself for UMD

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Well, given the last two weeks, I really don't want history repeating itself, at least not in the short term.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Almost assured it will be BC and UND, so we get this:
BU, Maine and Cornell are interchangeable for attendance. You all argue about it.

Worcester : 1) BC v 16) Air Force ;; 7) UMD v 9) BU
Bridgeport : 2) Union v 15) MSU ;; 6) Miami v 12) Cornell
Green Bay : 3) Michigan v 14) Lowell ;; 5) Ferris v 11) Denver
St Paul : 4) No Dakota v 13) W Michigan ;; 8) Minnesota v 10) Maine

EDIT:: I have been experiencing a bad glitch in the YATC software, and had the wrong numbers as a result: Upon further inspection, now that it is all finished, I would go:

Worcester : 1) BC v 16) Air Force ;; 7) UMD v 9) BU or 10) Maine
Green Bay : 2) Michigan v 13) Cornell ;; 6) Ferris v 12) Denver
Bridgeport : 3) Union v 15) MSU ;; 5) Miami v 11) Lowell
St Paul : 4) UND v 14) WMU ;; 8) Minnesota v 10) Maine or 9) BU

With Miami and Ferris also possibly swapping places. Sorry for the confusion above.

CHN projection:

Northeast Region, Worcester: 1. Boston College vs. 16. Air Force / 7. Minnesota-Duluth vs. 10. Maine
Midwest Region, Green Bay: 2. Michigan vs. 13. Cornell / 6. Ferris State vs. 11. Denver
East Region, Bridgeport: 3. Union vs. 15. Michigan State / 5. Miami vs. 12. Massachusetts-Lowell
West Region, St. Paul: 4. North Dakota vs. 14. Western Michigan / 8. Minnesota vs. 9. Boston University

Based on a field of:
1. Boston College
2. Michigan
3. Union
4. North Dakota
5. Miami
6. Ferris State
7. Minnesota-Duluth
8. Minnesota
9. Boston University
10. Maine
11. Denver
12. Massachusetts-Lowell
13. Cornell
14. Western Michigan
15. Michigan State
16. Air Force

The possibility of a BC/BU final in Worcester might draw a good crowd for the weekend, but I think the travelling Maine fans would bring an even larger gate (a potential rematch of tonight's game). Of course I'm a little biased in this opinion as I'll be in Worcester next weekend and I'd love to see Maine!

i'd be ok with bu getting shipped to bridgeport...

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Having only six eastern teams in the field (and only two of the top eight), most teams will have to be flying to their quarterfinal destinations. On latest PWR seeding, placing Minnesota in St. Paul as a host and avoiding Michigan vs. Michigan State in opening round, a possible field might look like this:

Worcester: 1-BC 15-Michigan State; 7-Minnesota-Duluth 9T-Maine or Boston University
Green Bay: 2-Michigan 16-Air Force; 6-Ferris State 11-Denver
Bridgeport: 3-Union 14-Western Michigan; 5-Miami 12T-UM-Lowell or Cornell
St. Paul: 4-North Dakota 12T-Cornell or UM-Lowell; 8-Minnesota 9T-Boston University or Maine

Consideration might be given to having Maine in Worcester, UM-Lowell in Bridgeport and Cornell in St. Paul, and moving Boston University (8-8 after January 21 and missing three of their better players) to the four seed in Bridgeport against Union and having CCHA champion Western Michigan as a three seed (playing considerably better than BU) against Minnesota in St. Paul to avoid one flight.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

My final predictions are:

Worcester:

1. BC
2. Denver
3. Lowell
4. Air Force

Bridgeport:

1. Union
2. Ferris State
3. Maine
4. Western Michigan

Green Bay:

1. Michigan
2. UMD
3. BU
4. Cornell

St. Paul:

1. North Dakota
2. Miami
3. Minnesota
4. Michigan State

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

Again, I had a problem with the YATC software on CHN.

My projections above should look exactly like CHN, except I am not sure about BU/Maine - who is in Worcester and who is in St Paul.

Worcester : 1) BC v 16) Air Force ;; 7) UMD v 9) BU or 10) Maine
Green Bay : 2) Michigan v 13) Cornell ;; 6) Ferris v 12) Denver
Bridgeport : 3) Union v 15) MSU ;; 5) Miami v 11) Lowell
St Paul : 4) UND v 14) WMU ;; 8) Minnesota v 10) Maine or 9) BU

With Miami and Ferris also possibly swapping places. Sorry for the confusion above.

I'd agree with you if the gametime wasn't set at 8 pm on a Sunday night by the NCAA numbnuts. BU might be better given their locality to Worcester and the gametime. But I have no idea how willing or unwilling Maine fans would be to come all the way down and basically blow any chance at sleep on a Sunday night before work on Monday morning.

You make a good point regarding the game time and Maine supporters.........and numbnuts is an appropriate way to describe those who scheduled an 8pm game time on a Sunday.
