2012 Mariucci Classic

Right, cause when a kid scores 25 touchdowns in high school he should expect that in college, and then in the NFL.

When you go up a level, you should expect your numbers to go down because you're playing against better competition. You don't need to talk to a scout to know that, you just need to NOT be a moron. And any scout who says his numbers won't go down from USHL to the WCHA has zero credibility... I don't care if his last name is Sutter.

And what do Milner's stats from years ago have to do with jack? Did it occur to you maybe in his USHL days he wasn't as good of a goalie but he improved substantially? I imagine if Tom Brady hadn't improved since his University of Michigan days, he probably wouldn't have any Super Bowl rings.

When did we start talking college football? We aren't eve talking forwards and defensemen, but you are coming completely from left field here.

And I do trust the opinions of a professional scout over yours. Not meant to be an insult, it's just that you know far less.

What scout was it?

Re: 2012 Mariucci Classic

Of course I know less than a scout, except if a scout thinks your GAA and Save % should stay the same going from the USHL to the WCHA then I'd check his credentials.

Ok fine... let's talk forwards then. Alex Broadhurst in the USHL went 26-47-73. Since the USHL season is a little longer and he did that in 53 games we should be able to comfortably pencil him in for 50 points this year, right?

I on't think I ever suggested that the transition for a forward (or especially a defenseman) from the USHL to NCAA is the same as a goalie.

Of course forwards are going to have a harder time transitioning. Defensemen even more so. And some goalies may struggle with the transition. Some excel. But most make the transition pretty seemlessly.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.... it is tougher for a forward to go from the USHL to the WCHA than a goalie?

IALTO

A goalie going from the USHL to the WCHA is now the second easiest transition in sports... behind a quarterback going from the NCAAs to the NFL.

Re: 2012 Mariucci Classic

Defense is the toughest position in hockey when a player goes up a level. Coaches can mask goalies and forwards.

Way to cover all the bases.

Once upon a time everyone knew large objects fell faster than small objects. Then one day someone dropped a large and a small object at the same time and something weird happened. They hit the floor at the same time.

Put your feeligns for JDUBBS1280 aside and look up some stats before you call his theory the work of the devil. I don't think it is absurd for a goalie to have similar save % stats in the WCHA and the USHL. The oponents are better, but so are the defenses in front of them as well as the goalies themselves. JDUBBS may be a heretic, but not for this theory.

I actually agree somewhat with his(Dubbs) goalie theory, I do think it's tougher for a D to go from the USHL to the NCAA than it is for a goalie. I have no stats on this, it's just my opinion.

Unless DUMBBS says something flagrantly obvious like "The world is round" I can't believe or agree with anything he says especially after this series of comments:

Nope. They'll be utterly embarassed by Minnesota. Come on out for the game. Should be fun! Jello shots on me :)

I apologize for my delayed response. Some friends and I are going to be hitting up Aqua tonight as Mrs Dubbs is out of town and the wine coolers are already flowing. Who knew you could make Olympic Table Tennis into a drinking game!

As for your question, I am as disappointed in your choice of adult beverages as I am in your choice of hockey team.

Gotta run. We have some ladies coming over and I think the fuzzy navels will soon be flowing
I'll bet you a bottle of peach schnapps they don't.

So, I was flying home on the corporate jet last night, drinking an apple martini and listening to my favorite Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's album, and it got me thinking. Who are the preseason favorites to win it all?

I think it's safe to say "Mrs. DUBBS" and "JDUBBS" are the same person.

Very well possible, although it would be interesting to see some stats for comparison sake. I'm too lazy to look them up. :)

Re: 2012 Mariucci Classic

It looks like officials were fearful that BC would get upset by UAH, so all matchups have been determined ahead of time to ensure a BC vs UMN matchup.

What a classy move by the Gophers in rewarding BC for their championship last year by ensuring BC a matchup against the top team in college hockey this year.
If that is true, you should be upset with the dear home team for looking out for someone else's interests instead of their own. Personally, I believe they were looking out for their own interests. The PWR swing between a win vs. UAH and a loss vs. BC would be negligible. The upside to be gained when comparing the PWR swing between a loss vs. UAH and an improbable win vs. BC could not be ignored. Nor could it be passed up.

Re: 2012 Mariucci Classic

A goalie's stats don't necessarily go down when he goes up a level, I'm not sure why some here are insisting that they must. There are way too many other factors to go and make a general statement like that, the most simple being, what if his junior team had a ****ty d-corps and in the NCAA he has a couple all-americans in front of him? Just going by stats, as is being suggested is a dangerous method.

Re: 2012 Mariucci Classic

Jdubbs is still nursing a rough butthurt injury from April after BC ran a train up on the Gophers... not surprising. And if the Gophers do win this tourney vs. BC, will Jdubbs raise a banner?

Possibly, we do know that the peach schnapps will be flowing though.
